572 BBC Questions?
Looking To Put a 572 BBC Engine in My 68 C10 and Have a Few Questions..
Is There a Reliability Issue Between The Tall Deck and Short Deck Setups? Anyone Make Shorty Headers? I Don’t Want To Run a Cowl Hood. Is That Possible? Can I Run a Mechanical Fuel Pump? Trucks a Weekend Cruiser. Thinking 650 HP Roughly and Never See The Track. Just Want a Reliable Driver Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 572 BBC Questions?
I don't think there is really any reliability differences between the deck heights. I would go short deck as then its pretty much like any other big block Chevy. Can then find shorty headers then no problem. As long as you dont run a tunnel ram or a real tall single 4 barrel intake, should have no problems keeping everything under the stock hood. A standard short deck block will be like any other 396/427/454 in terms of mounting it in the truck. Just need the correct frame stands and it sit just fine.

Depends on which block you start with Trucks a Weekend Cruiser. Thinking 650 HP Roughly and Never See The Track. Just Want a Reliable Driver That should be easy-peasy. K

Re: 572 BBC Questions?
Check out my very similar build here:
https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...11#post9125011 It's a 540 so standard deck height. I did this so everything would fit like factory. I used Hedman long tube headers. My build should be right around 700hp, it's quite streetable. |

Re: 572 BBC Questions?
I'm running a high-volume mechanical fuel pump with no issues.

Re: 572 BBC Questions?
A question?
On that big cube engine wouldn't shorty headers kill a bunch of power? |

Re: 572 BBC Questions?
Ever watch the copperhead truck buildup? Probably a lot of differences in what you want to do, but I have watched many times and always notice something new. They say all you need to build a truck is a frame, cab, and title. I would say a pile of money as well, but I know the truck here was heavily subsidized

Re: 572 BBC Questions?
I agree with above answers.
I would like to share a perspective that may or may not be liked. Sorry for off topic. I was at a car's a coffee event recently. Met a guy with a Lingenfelter modified corvette. Bosting 675 horse power, he was so prode of his car. I invited him to the track so he could understand the capabilities of the car. Auto Club Speedway is only 45 minutes away and you can often join a track day event for about 200 bucks for the day. Turn one in the Lingenfelter Vette can easily handle 165MPH with minimal experience. He declined. I asked him what he did with all that power. He said he'd been up to 140 on some two lane road out in the dessert one time. Having been a club level sports car road racer/time trialer for nearly 20 years has given me a perspective that I feel compelled to share. Because the sport is so expensive to participate in, even at the lowest basic levels, I soon learned to not over develop or "buy" anything that is not absolutly necessary. I get the lure of a "572" engine and the bragging rights of such a motor, only if it is to one's self. There is value in that, but seriously, and I mean seriously evaluate such a journey. Anything over 400HP on the street is nearly useless. I also instructed students attempting to learn what tracking their high performance car was all about. In 20 years I ran into maybe 2 or 3 students who actually had a sense of what to do with the power of their machine. Not to be conceded or self important, its just a very well known fact that most people really do not have knowledge of what performance driving is about and simply waist the performance ability of the cars they spent hard earned money to buy. I get the "I want" mind set, and if that is what you are attempting to satisfy, more power to you. Now lets look at the I need side of things. Are you towing an exorbitant amount of weight? If not, the power you are attempting to put in your truck will be used only in those rare events you decide to place others in danger and do something not so smart on a public road. The extra 2 or 3 or even 400 horse power over 400 will be impossible to hook up with the very light rear end of the truck and limited grip of even the most sticky DOT tire. Bottom line, unless burn outs are your thing, build a motor more in line with your use. Conserve the cash for other stuff to improve the truck. Suspension upgrade, OD tranny, power windows, AC. Things that actually improve the ride continually rather than just a few brief seconds. Your wallet will thank you. |
