Snapped Shifter off the column..
Was fighting with the wife and triedbto get the hell out of there to diffuse the situation and for some odd reason when I put it into reverse it didn't do anything. Cycled it through the gears and nothing, and I must’ve slapped the shifter back up to park to hard and it sheared off the damned shifter including the pin. Found out pot metal doesn’t like to be welded…I can’t afford to pay 500+ on another column, I had somebody suggest putting a floor shifter in but I dont exactly know if that is feasible since it has the 4x4 shifter already on the hump.
Anyone have any idea how to set up a floor shifter or have any other idea of temporary solution since this truck is my daily driver. A few details on the truck: 1970 C10 TH350 Its been converted to a 4x4

Re: Snapped Shifter off the column..
You can pick up a non tilt automatic column for a lot less than you can buy a quality floor shift.
Ask your wife to pay for it.

That is very true! I'm thinking all he probably needs is a shift collar and maybe a lever if it broke the ball off of the end of it. LockDoc

Re: Snapped Shifter off the column..
Thanks for the replies, I’ll grab some pictures tomorrow after work.
All the columns I saw were like $400-$1500 which had my jaw on the floor. First time ever needing to possibly replace a column. CST I would definitely like to buy that from you, only thing is my other ride is a little sketchy at the moment to drive to your neck of the woods. You got any plans to come near Sonoma County anytime soon?

Re: Snapped Shifter off the column..
You can crawl under and move the trans into gear, and then start it with your foot on the brake. Set the park brake first, though, so it doesn't roll away on you. I had a '56 Chevy that the B&M floor shifter cable broke. I used a stick (couldn't crawl under it) to put it in drive and drove out of King's Canyon to Fresno for a new cable. It was a "stick shift" car for about 100 miles.

Re: Snapped Shifter off the column..
I understand that, driving this frankentruck 30 or so minutes to and from work each day is getting expensive…

Re: Snapped Shifter off the column..
I'd repair or buy one of these cheap columns. But I had a '71 Blazer with TH350/NP205 that I installed a Hurst His 'n' Hers shifter in to make it more fun. That had cable linkage...and it sure was fun!!
