sort of off topic: newer truck question
Hey guys,
I'm looking at buying a 1995 chevy truck to add to the collection. The guy wants too much, but if I can talk him down I might be interested. The truck has 150,000 on it, so I am going to assume it may have a rebuild in its future. My question is, I have a 350 from an 87 suburban right now. Do you guys know if that block is that same as what is in it. I realize that it would require some mods, but I was just wondering if I might already have something that would work. Thanks. Mike

I would say if you think he is asking too much and won't meet you where you feel like it is a fair price, then you should pass and keep looking.

An 87-up block all of them should be one piece rear main seals, so you probably have the same block already.. same heads as far as that goes. The only difference in the blocks would be roller cam provisions, and for a stock rebulid since its a 95, that wouldnt matter. Good luck on getting it

So what do you guys think a 95 z71, loaded, black stepside, 4wd, with a tonneau cover is worth. It has 150,000 on it, looks good inside and out. Just seems like a lot of miles. But man does this truck look good.

Around here something like that would be priced for 6-7k.. depending on who had it or what not.. I had a 92 k1500 that had a 160k on it when I bought it, and I ran it up and past 220k before I sold it. Last I heard the newest guy that bought it had the mileage up to 240k and already had the tranny redone and was getting ready to work on the motor... So this 95 still have some service life left if it was taken care of in those 150,000 miles. Just my opinion on it, frank

i bought my 91 K1500 (standard cab longbed, non-Z71) for $4200 last July. as for the "high miles" dont worry about them, as long as the truck runs good. the 91 had 146,000 on it when i bought it, and the truck that i traded in on it had 201,000. both still run like brand new. what are they asking for this truck?

That sounds like a dealer price for that pickup around here, its a bit much for me, but I usually just get basket cases If it suits your fancy and you can talk the guy down some, go for it. Frank

I bought my '89 z71 standard cab, swb for $4300 with 116,000 miles or so on the clock. I do think $8995 is a bit high from what I think. A local trader magazine around me has had a 96 z71 ext. cab, shortbed in it for about 2-3 months with a price of $8500 but I am not sure of mileage or anything else.

8995 is definitely way high. it would have to be absolutely flawless for me to spend anywhere near that much. i say keep looking, you'll come across another.

The price is too high, but if it's nice try to work a deal. If the motor sounds solid, 150k isn't that many miles. The transmission is another story. If it's never been rebuilt, it's probably going to go soon.
I have had quit a few GM trucks with high miles on them The motor does great, but I usually dont get more than 150k out of the tranny... |

the trans should be a 700R4. It may be the 4l60E in 95 (just an electronically shifted 700R4). The engine will be almost identical from your Suburban to the pickup.
FWIW, my neighbor has a 98 with 100K almost identical to the truck you are looking at, and the dealer only wanted to give him $6000 on trade. I think NADA was about $9000.

You know what the worst part of this will be. My wife says that I would have to sell my 86. Women just don't understand why you need more than one truck.....why was it we needed more than one again
