72 Blazer

Looking to buy this Blazer:
350V8-3speed trans-205 trnsfer-chrome roll bar-new tires and wheels-new brakes new- rancho shocks and stabelizer-solid floor(rhino lined)-doublewalled top- brand new bucket seats(has orginal with it) -new alum. exhaust system with flowmaster- 4-point belt system -new hi-fi cd sound system. Everyday driver.

Ball park figure on going price on one like this.
(no major rust anywhere)

id say 3000-3500. not to insult anyone. just my opinion. its only worth what your willing to pay. even if its pretty like that one is. it is still at least 30 years old.

Sorry Jess will let you know if I don't buy it. 69k5 I would buy 2 of them like this one at that price. You are right that it is only worth as much as you are willing to pay but how many of these 32 year old Blazers are there left?

Around here, $6-8K (assuming it isn't a rust bucket). When you say "3-speed" do you mean auto or 3-on-the-tree?

Appears to be a nice rig but the colors on that photo are so oversaturated it looks a bit cartoonish. If that photo were on ebay, I would think the seller is trying to hide something by manipulating it in photoshop.

Check out http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/ and compair it to other rigs in approx the same condition.

Thanks B't'-3 in floor-manuel-already checked with selle-he sent me a lot more photos all in hi resol. That link is where I found it. He had to get someone else to take the photos as he has no camera. According to your range we are not far off.

I paid $5000 for my 70 blazer and I think I got an okay deal. (had some rust issues and dented up front grill) When you say "no major rust" what does that mean? Sometimes a little rust can go a long way in a short amount of time. By what I see in that pic, I think that blazer looks sweet! I will post a pic of mine so you can compare, but I think anything under $8000 would be a good buy if it is nice inside and out like it looks to be.

Blazers in the condition that you have found would sell for about $10,000 Canadian in my part of the world, that would be about $1.50 in American dollars once you have done the conversion from Canadian to American dollars. Well maybe not quite that low. From watching the posts, I am starting to get the impression that Blazers are alot more plentiful in the States than in northern Canada. I looked for close to two years to find my 1972 Blazer K-5 and I had to hound a guy for close to three years to get him to sell me his 1972 GMC Jimmy 2 wheel drive.

I envy you guys below the 49th having all of that prime tin to pick from.

Question

did you get a pic of the transfer case? the manual 3 speed sould have a dana 20 instead of the 205.

buckshot you are probably right as i was just assuming that what it had not owning a 4x4 before. Thanks for all the replys. We are going to check it out the weekend of the 19th-he is out of town this weekend. Will let you know the result.

I didn't think they had the dana 20s in 72. My truck was originally a 307/ 3-on-the-tree/dana 20 combo. It now has a 350/TH350/NP203. Someday, I'll switch the 203 out for a 205. I paid $4K for mine. A couple of small bubbles in the paint and a hole in the driver side floor board, but everything else is solid. It came with a soft and hard top, but the rear hatch on the hard top is thrashed. New '35s and a mild built 350.

Yeah they did but they were bottom of the line trucks usualy with 292 or 250 I6. The shifter was usualy on the tree.

My buddy had one and that's how it was stock. Checked the RPO's on the truck and it showed that it was a 292 originaly with colum shift. Somebody put a 327 in it along the way. He yanked the 327 after it spun a bearing and put a 350 in it with the double humps off the 327 with a 700r4 and 208. Yeah sounds bad but that truck was strong!

Then he nosed it in over a water bar. Motor went fowars and snapped a rams horn off at the colector on the engine mount on the frame on the driverside. Stripped three of the adaptor to tranny bolts out when the front drive shaft bottomed out The 4th stayed bolted but that section broke off and stayed with the adaptor.

I tried to get him to pick up a core 700 we could swap guts into but he wanted to be a cheap skate and to try to fix it.

I swear to god I helicoiled the remaing three then dilled the broke one off deeper and helicoiled it. I JB welded the broken peice back on. Made a bracket to go between the mount and the 2wd mount boss to give it some strength. REAL Booty fab repair were talking about here. He pounded on that truck for almost 2 years without any problems and then sold it. The new owner pounded on it another 6 months and the guy aired the truck and knocked the case clean off and the motor hit the radaitor. LOL

I get nervous when I see paint that new.

You have no way of knowing what kind of mess lies underneath!!!! If the inner rocker boxes, A-Pillar, and floor support have not been repaired/replaced at the time of the re-paint, then you could have damage that MUST be repaired sometime that can easily cost in the THOUSANDS of $$$ unless you do it yourself.

Before I buy any gen 1 or gen 2 Blazer, I take the top off and push on the upper windscreen frame. If you get more that a 1/2 inch of play and a "mushy" feeling, then you have damage in the aforementioned area.

IMHO, pretty paint hides poor workmanship 90 % of the time.

Without NEW engine, (not recently "rebuilt" buy some knucklehead), NEW tranny, the Blazer is worth no more than $5,000.00 if it has A/C. W/out A/C, take $500-$1000 off.

If you buy w/ your heart, you will ALWAYS pay too much. (Believe me, I have owned several gen 1 and gen 2 Blazers over the past 15 years).

Even though there are fewer and fewer every year, there are plenty to choose from if you take your time. The general public is very hesitant to buy anything that gets 8-10 MPG, has no ABS, and is over 30 years old.

Thanks for the infro 'kpk. I know where you are coming from as me and my friends have built a few street rods and street machines over the years . Trying to keep my son from jumping to guick on these trucks (he has been looking for awhile). Will look it over good before deceiding. As for as rust goes here is what we are working now (go to my web site to see some that we have built).
