Pictures of Custom Speaker Panels

I've been busy this weekend. Finally built my speaker boxes and side panels out of some oak plywood that I had left over from my basement project. I had all the speakers except for the sub lying around for years, finally had a chance to use them somewhere.

I urethaned the oak plywood to protect it from water. I will probably have the side panels upholstered to match the seats I am going to use. I still have to get some grills to cover the speakers for protection.

Almost forgot the front speakers. I ordered the Custom Autosound kick panel speakers with the upgraded Pioneer speakers. Wish I never did now. Sound quality is poor, had to adjust the park brake (bend) so it didn't rub, and now I can't squeeze my foot in to push the dimmers. Poor design!!!

Thanks you guys! I should mention that the speaker boxes are mounted to the inner box, and the side panels are removed without the speaker boxes. It should only take a minute to remove the screws holding the panels in place with a screw drill when I want to take the top off. I will also add a rear interior light to the drivers side panel at the back with a quick disconnect. Once the carpet and the rear seat is back in it should look alright!

I just measured the side panels so the forward edge of the panel just tucked under the lip at the very front of the bed, then measured the length, and ripped out a rectangle on my tablesaw. I then used a pencil on edge to trace around wheel wells, which gave me enough room to tuck the carpet underneath. I also left a 1/4" on the bottom for the carpet/underlay as well.

I made the speaker boxes, and then traced out the side panels where I wanted to place them, and then cut the squares out with a jig saw. It probably would look better with the speaker boxes flush, but the 6x9's at the front required more depth, and the sub box was built to the minimum size recommended by Jensen. I have a seven speaker ~600 watt stereo now, and must say it sounds pretty good. I needed something powerful to overcome all the road noise. Once I get the carpet and insulation in, the road noise should tone down some.

Looks nice. I was wondering if you had to take the panels off to remove the top. Looks like you got it all figured out. Also, good to know about the kick panel speakers. It always looked like the parking brake and the dimmer switch would be blocked by them. I'm glad I haven't made the investment.
