painted valve covers?
Anyone sand, refinsh and paint their old valve covers? Was it successful? Pictures? Curious here in cali.

I did it on my stock valve covers several years ago, used high heat paint, and they came out fine. I have since switched to the newer style alum. valve covers (no more gaskets or leaks).

I sanded and painted mine. No problems and I didnt even use high temp paint. I have pics on my www

Nice job, would have never guessed that those were re-painted. They look good. That's what I want, just to clean things up in there...eventually I plan on getting an aluminum set. Cool.

yea i did my stock covers ... get some paint remover like jasco .... strip the piant and sand if theres any rust ...clean with acetone and shoot you high temp paint on .... let them dry overnight so the paints sets properly
i have nice orange valve cover sitting on filthy heads and block .. oh well .... i'll post pics if i get a chance today peace Mitch

Humm.....i wiped mine down with a paper towel and gave them a coat of VHT Chevy Orange and it seemed to work pretty good
 I wouldn't bother sanding them though, i would use a chemical stripper, acetone, paint thinner, ect. Would be a little easier, especially with how small a VC is. I have a set of chrome Edelbrock covers on my truck but i think i like the enigne all orange better.....just looks more Chevy Wish mine still looked like this....summer project may invole cleaning up my enigne bay

In order to paint mine, I would have to disturb all of the factory "35 year old" dirt and grime. Gramps lived in the country!!
