Question got airbags, now what shocks?

I have air bags on my 68 c10 and dont know what shocks to get. The worst thing about buying isidont know of any shocks made especially for airbags. They make lowered shocks but I need specifications on them for the topped and bottomed out measurements of the bags.I know ground force makes a really good shock but I dont know which one to get.

I would recommend HAL QA1 billet aluminum 12-way adjustable shock absorbers. I have these at all four corners and they are awesome! They cost $159 per shock abosorber but are rebuildable.

You can order them through www.RideTech.com and www.SummitRacing.com

If those don't fit your budget, I would recommend Doetsch Tech shock absorbers. They can be ordered through www.MacsSpring.com and www.SportTruckDirect.com

Monroe #33033 on front, #32207 on rear. They're shorter than stock and use the stock mounts. < $30 each at your local parts store.

I don't know about the '79. The OP was asking about '68... which is same for 67-72 (and probably back to at least '64).

Get a Monroe (or whatever) spec book, find the specs on your STOCK shocks-- top/bottom mounts, compressed/extended heights, damping, etc. Then work backwards with those specs to find a comparable shock that simply shorter.

I'd use them since you've got them. My rear shocks are on unmod'd stock brackets and they're not very effective since the rear of the truck is so low. I'm currently doing some changes that will alleviate that problem... but they've been in their current state for 5 1/2 years and I don't have any significant complaints about the ride.

One more Q XXL. I checked with the local parts store and they said that those 33033's woudl'nt fit on the rear... I'm assuming that they mean that they just arn't really designed for the rear... is that the case?

Going to change my rear KYB GR2's from ECE that came with the 6 inch rear drop kit (part number 344055 not listed on KYB's site) to the Doetsch.

CPP 39.00 each

Let me double-check the part number on mine. I'll try to do this evening and post later.

Frank, how come you are taking off your GR2s? I ask because I am going from a static drop [2/4] to ART bags and had hoped to run my existing GR2s. I read something that they may not be the right shock for a bag setup though...

Hey XXL-Is that true? Can I just get 4 of the 33033's and be fine. I'm going with a 4/6 and I already have the rear shock relocators from ECE.

Looking for money saving ideas.

The ECE kyb gr2 that comes with the rear 6 inch drop kit maps to a 1977-78 Toyota pickup rear shock. Thanks to KYB tech support.

They were correct (must not have been an Autozone )... I've updated my original post above with correct part numbers front and rear. These part numbers came off original Air Ride Technologies shocks I purchased from them almost 6 years ago. The fronts were recently replaced by slammed67 because, apparently, there was some slight leakage staining his garage floor... ... oh, and because they were flat worn out.

Anybody out there made their own relocation brackets? If so how far did the brackets move them? I figure surely I have some metal lying around that would save the 70 bucks for the kit. Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

For the rear you can use the stock brackets with a little modification. Use the search above to find several threads that discuss this.

Don't ever let AutoZone or Advance or any of the other chains tell you what will work or not. They don't understand things like my truck using Camaro calipers in the rear or lowered shocks... if they can't look it up in a book they think it won't work...

They told me I was nutz because I told them I wanted '78 cadilliac seville rotors and when they asked what vehicle they were going on I told them a 1970 GMC jimmy...

raggedjim, the mistake was yours. When they asked that you should have told them "'78 Cadillac Seville." You were asking for it otherwise!

BTW, if you want to have some real fun, next time they ask, tell them something like a '68 Ford Pinto Squire Wagon with the 1.7L engine. I had one AutoZone guy tell me that he'd have to order the part. He made some calls and then told me the part (I forget what I was actually asking for) was no longer available.
