Anyway to put a 88-91 cluster from a K5 into a 85 truck?

I bought this cluster which I think is from a 88 K5 from Cochino12, but because of the later model electronic speedo i'm not even sure how I could put my old speedo in it. The back part where my older style speedo would go is covered so I guess I would have to cut it out for the back of my gauge to come through? I can get pictures if need be.

This cluster is in better shape than the one I just pulled, so I would like to use it, but if I can't I will just use it to fix my old one I guess

Don't f*ck up that electronic speedo cluster, it's worth a lot more than the older mechanical versions. You can convert your transmission to run that electronic speedo.

How much to convert my transfer case output to run an electric? I don't wanna spend much, i'll fix my old one before I do that lol.

Might be tough a swap unless you go aftermarket. I think there are some mechanical-to-electronic converters made now.

Should be a 89-91 cluster you have - 88 was still mechanical. None of the NP208's came with a vehicle speed sensor... only the NP241 (or a '91-only NP205).

You did, I never seen a newer cluster though, if I can't use it i'll stick it on the shelf or something, i'll find a use for it one day.

I thought I could just stick my older speedo in the newer cluster, I didn't know there wasn't any room for the older style speedo to come through the back.

I have no actual facts to prove this, but i'm pretty sure a magnetic induction pulse generator can be put in place of the gear drive on a 208. The NP241 is an updated version of the 208, and the tailhousings look much alike.

Perhaps an easier way would be to get an aftermarket pulse generator that runs off of the stock drive gear. One more thing. You can't run the stock 89-91 speedometer directly off of a stock vehicle speed sensor (VSS). All conventional magnetic induction pickups create an alternating current sine wave which must be converted to square wave so that the speedometer senses clean pulses. GM did that with a sort of a buffer, which also modulates the VSS signal for different gear ratios/tire sizes.

Do a search there has been a few threads about these electronic speedos.
