For coil drop, either will work. Since the suspension isn't making drastic height changes like on an air bag system, once you dial in the setting, you're pretty much set.

If you only do the panhand bar the mount point will be to high on the rearend. This may cause the rear to go from side to side as it travels up and down. The ECE kit mounts the pivot point on the passengers side rearend mount.

Except that coil ride height isn't too variable... maybe 3" of excursion/compression (unloaded) at best. So there's really not much side-to-side issue to speak of. Having said that, longer is always better (and I'm still talking Panhard bars).
