a/c compressor questions...OK to swap a Sanden 508 comp in place of stock R4? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I want to swap a 454 into my '81 Silverado, but want to use different, wide-mount Alan Grove brackets for the A/C comp and alternator...the stock R4 radial compressor will not fit these brackets as they're designed for the Sanden 508 compressor.
Question I have is, besides having new a/c lines fabbed-up, is the Sanden compressor compatible with the rest of my stock a/c system?

Might check with Vintage Air or Hot Rod Air, both in the San Antonio area. Last time I looked, they had Sandens for just about any application.

A friend who used to design systems for Vintage Air told me that it would work. He runs a Sanden on his V8 S10. I decided against it in the end because of the cost of brackets, new compressor, and custom built lines. A new R4 was only a little over $200 I think, so I decided to stick with what I had.
