Taking off a 2wd lift kit

I sold my truck and I'm thinking of buying an '88 k1500 2wd stepside. The previous owner installed a 3" lift kit which looks really ugly. I want to get it back to factory height. How difficult is this and what does it entail?

Where do you live? I want a lifted truck but can't afford a $600 dollar 3" lift.
