Removing spring bushings
Anyone have tips on getting the spring bushings out (leaf springs)? Two came out just by pulling with my hand. One came out with a large hammer and a socket, another parially came out, leaving the metal sleeve in the eye. Two refuse to move at all.
They are the (I think) original bushings. Anyone have a sure-fire way to get them out?

Plumber's torch. We usually burn the hard to get ones out...

Soak them down with PB Blaster then try to knock them out. If that does not work then torch'em

Sometimes one can use a tapered punch inside the sleeve and hammer away with the end of the spring solidly supported. Worry about removing the punch from the sleeve once the sleeve is out. With no sleeve, the rubber doesn't stand a chance. Propane torch is faster, though.
Edit: I have also used a deep socket that is the size of the sleeve, not the entire bushing. This also usually hammers out the sleeve seperate from the rubber.

I run a drill through them until they start to fall apart and then knock them out.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |
