What is this?

Stole this picture from another thread.
What is the round tube behind the square filler tube cover?
Is it some kind of vent? There are 3 gas lines to the bottom that I have to replace. Just one of about 12 reasons my blazer failed the provincial inspection.
I like to know exactly what I am replacing.

I think I read on the board that it has to do with emissions.

Mine had one too. I beleive its the condensation tube for the gasoline fumes. The condensed gas is returned to the tank rather than the atmosphere. (what a load)...
