Where to get new stock LCAs?

Well, My LCAs are definitely on their last leg. The bushings are shot to hell and whenever I air up they "pop" (more like, THUNK) into place and Ive been wanting to replace them with strongarms from ART, but since my cashflow has been a little lacking, would it be significantly cheaper to go with stock LCAs with bushings installed? I looked at GMpartsdirect and they basically wanted my first born child.

Re: Where to get new stock LCAs?

Why not re-use them with new bushings? Unless they have been damaged, I can't see any reason to buy new ones.

It sounds like you may need to round up a small collection of junkyard spares. The good news is that you will soon be really good at pressing bushings.

If you have one close, I would go to your locall "pick-your-part". I'm sure they can't be too expensive there. Or put a wanted add in the parts section of this site.

Seems to me your best bet would be the local Pic-a-Part since you live in a fairly rust free part of the country. Press in some new bushing and you good to go....

Re: Where to get new stock LCAs?

Well, it depends.

With one-piece stock rubber bushings, pressing in the first bushing in the LCA isn't too bad. But, before pressing in the second bushing into the other end of the LCA, the cross shaft must first be installed. That's where the fun begins ... trying to press in the bushing around the shaft. I rig something up to press it in. To save you the headache, hit up a shop to press them in for you.

With bushings (i.e poly?) that has a separate outer sleeve, it may not be as difficult since you can press the outer sleeves on each end of the LCA before inserting the shaft and the bushing/inner sleeve. But, I have no experience these.

I had a shop do my nova control arm bushings. For removal of the old ones plus installation of the new was about $8 per bushing if I remember correctly.

You DO know that with bags, that's SUPPOSED to happen right? When they air up, they "pop" into place, that's normal.

The cups you mean? Yeah, I know that. But believe me, its more than just the cups popping in. Makes me want to go with Strongarms even more, to get rid of that.
