Going to get my hands on a pair of 69-72 K5 HE auxilary fuel tanks. One is an original HE product and the other is a copy. Our website only shows the HE tanks that mount inside the rear bed area inline with the wheel wells...it also lists these for gen 1 and gen 2 k5's. The tanks i'm getting are decribed as mounting under the cab floor on the frame rail which i saw personally two years ago in a 76 chalet from gunnison colorado...

So anybody out there have theses tanks...installed or laying around so i can get some pictures as our HE catalog is from 75....

There was a member in Texas with a white Jimmt that had frame-mount tanks.He was selling it last year.Don`t know if they were Hickey.I have Blazer with the behind-the-wheelhouse tanks.

I have Hickey aux tanks in my '72, but they mount inside the bed behind the rear wheel wells. I have read on the board about the style you are referring to, but I have never actually seen them. I think it might be Mr. Freeze that may have some tanks like you are describing in his rig (haven't seen him around here in a while though.) I read about one where I think they cut out the rocker boxes and put tanks in there. However, that doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Since '76 was the first year of the partial removable top, this probably translates to no rocker boxes? In that case these tanks would be a good idea. If the '69-'72 tanks you are getting require modifing the rocker boxes you'll need to figure a way to put the strength and rigidity back in or you'll probably never be happy.

I think the behind the wheel house tanks were rated to hold more gallon's than the frame mounted units...got any pics of those tanks special-K / bouncytruck? Just like to see what they look like for future reference...cookin some ideas in my head for some future project. Plus a local ck5 member posted up a set of tanks that mount under the cab...one is an original hickey unit and the other is an aluminum copy. Once we td this well i can get down there to pick them up.
