WOO HOO...progress...not much.
UPDATE::: DROVE IT TO WORK TODAY !!
Got her registered yesterday and will get the inspection done at lunch. F'in speedo quite working again Guess I need to pull the tail BACK off of the trans and make sure the gear in on completely and not broke. Now I get to figure out what's up with the backup lights. Finally put in my new dome light and got it working with the switch. Then I thought how nice it would be to have it come on when I open the door. So, now it does, at least the driver side does. I had to order the switch for the other side but will install it today. Got the gear indicator light working. I didn't know it was a fiber optic line. Also, got defrost hoses hooked up and working. Which, identified the cause to another problem, the glove box not opening on it's own when the button is pushed. Found that the "spring" was not on the bottom lip of the opening, but under it. Removed the door and re-installed and now it works great. Also, FINALLY got the speedo working. Removed, cleaned and powder grafite everything. However, found other things that need attention. 1) Therm housing is leaking 2) So is the over flow bottle (cracked) 3) Fan only has med and high 4) Backup lights don't come on (switch I'm thinking)

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
Little things like that you take for granted if they work, and feels good to get 'em back that way. Makes the truck feel more 'complete.'
Also, how'd you access the area in the door jamb to wire in the switch? I've looked, (albeit not very thoroughly) and dont see any way to get to it. Am I missing something?

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
I looked too and finally just drilled a 1/8 hole and fished the wire in. I drilled it as high on the kick panel as possible (obove bottom of dash). I will be putting fiberglass speaker enclosers on and will cover everything up.

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
It funny how good it feels to get things that should work to work. It's wierd having all the little problems omost taken care of. All I need is to get the reverse light hooked up. I dont have a ground thru the sock to the housing figure that out....
The rest of the problems you listed are a little easier than fishing that wire out the switch hole.

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
My truck did not come with the door switches, that was an add on. But I know the backup lights "should" work. Just haven't gotten that far yet.

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
I don't need them here either. I want them working for my own satisfaction more than anything. I never see them working on a lot of these old trucks. Next step is cuttin' her down to a short bed.

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
Try adjusting the neutral safety switch. E-brake on, shifter in reverse, loosen screws on switch and move it slowly one way or the other till someone who is in the rear watching tells you that you have light. Tighten screws, shouldn't have to move much at all. Worked for me!

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
Back up lights or shine a flashlight behind you. Definitely cool to get one running.

Good Job! I fixed my backup lights after I had my rear window tinted. I couldn't see squat without 'em..

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
Got it inspected yesterday. At least it's legal now. But OUCH...the mileage is rough... Of course, keeping my foot out of it would probably help, but where's the fun in that?

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
Go for the antique plates. If you can drive it into the Sheriff's Dept here for a Vin # check, & it'll start & get out of their parking lot, that's all the inspection that's needed.
I'm slowly "fixin" stuff myself. |

Re: WOO HOO...progress...not much.
Talked to them about the antique plates. Can only drive it certain times of the year. Classic plates only cost more, no changes in requirements. Only have to have a safety inspection here anyway. Lights, horn, wipers and brakes.
