Question about Dyeing/Painting interior trim

I need to replace a few pieces of the tan plastic and metal headliner trim in my GMC. I have replacement parts from a marroon interior equipped truck. Can I use the same dye on the the plastic and metal parts? Will there be any issues covering a darker color with a lighter color?

I would think that it will be a darker tan color than your original panels.

If you dye them dont be cheep buy a high quality dye and also get the primer or you will be doing it all over and spending twice as much on the job.

Years ago i dyed the complete interior in my '79 Elcamino i went from a light blue to black and i got the dye and primer from Eastwood co. it was a little peicey but it turned out really good well worth the price and it never pealed or flaked off when i owned it.

Yeah, you can use the same dye. You will want to use a metal primer on the metal parts if they are chipped up pretty bad, but that is the only difference. Just make sure they are clean, and use the good dye.

You can use the same dye...I suggest SEM brand.

For more info, check out Kens article.

Re: Question about Dyeing/Painting interior trim

Did mine with SEM a couple months ago. I used SEM Prep Solvent to wipe them down after a good cleaning and Bulldog Adhesion Promoter on everything. I went from beige to black. So far no chipping or scratch throughs and this is a daily driver.

I did mine with the SEM from Eastwoods too. I highly recommend it.
