Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
My understanding is it is a dealer installed item. It's big and bulky. When the $ are available, I'll be swapping back to a stock chrome bumper.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
Even if you buy one "already fixed up" you know you're going to find some crappy mods on it that you are gonna change out. It always seems to work like that. I overpaid a little for mine. But it had almost no rust in the floors and the top had good bones minus the roof rack

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
My Blazer is not quite finished yet, but getting close. Because I did all of the work myself, I was able to save a lot on labor. My only real expense has been the cost of parts.
$500 Purchase price $2500 Engine, trans, transfer rebuild / TPI conversion $600 Paint and body work materials $700 New trim all the way around $250 Door and top seals $400 Interior - carpet and seat covers / heaters $500 Misc things I've forgotten I would guess I have about $5500 in mine so far.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
The labor that is difficult to do on your own is the tranny rebuilds and stuff like that. I know seasoned mechanics that wont touch an auto rebuild. My tranny and tcase rebuilt ran $1400 and I removed and installed them.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
Will probably have $12,000 into my 70 Jimmy by the time i am done. Initial purchase was $1500 and already have $3000 in parts for it. Items collected so far, TPI, tilt for manual trans, tach cluster, front clip, all new lenses, new shroud, 35" BFG Mudders, new gm surround for 70, 70 gm grill new, headlight bezels new gm, etc. Has factory A/C is mainly why i bought it. Plan on building a small block 400 for it with roller cam and fuel injected.
By the way just in case some of you don't know the 69-72 grill surrounds and grills are available from GM again. My 86 Silverado SWB 4X4 $25,000. Bought in 87. $8000 just into the motor so far. Still waiting for a few more items before i start putting it back together. Tons of NOS parts that are not available anymore. Was hit with a Semi back in 2000. Been collecting parts to fix ever since. 71 RS/SS Camaro $1200 initial buy price Concourse restoration $15,000-$20,000 depending how much parts rise by the time i get the rest of them. Have most of the hard to find parts but still need a few small items. 70 Camaro LS1 motor. $700 initial buy price. $12,000 and i should be able to complete it.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
On my 70 Blazer:
$500 purchase of tub $400 in gas to go get tub (Tuscon, AZ) $150 purchase of frame $75 in gas to go get frame (Dallas, TX) $125 purchase of single wall top $600 in gas to get top (Meadville, PA) I shouldn't count this one, we made a "stop" while on Vacation. So far I haven't had the time to do anything to it yet, so there's MUCH, MUCH more to come on that one. I figure if I keep it under $25k, I'll be alright with that. On my 70 SWB, i've got $11k into it and haven't done the body work or paint yet, so it looks like an $11k turd.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
Between the first build and the build going on now I have just shy of $28,000 in the truck and it is still in pieces. When I'm done that is a $ figure my Finance Officer wife does not need to see.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
How much? Apparently NOT NEARLY ENOUGH. After buying it, fixing it, driving it, fixing it some more, and so on, it still needs the powertrain redone, everything *else* fixed, ALL the bodywork, ALL the interior work, new everything.
Probably the best $ spent on it (and the most issues I've had fixing anything) was to upgrade the front to power disc brakes. I won't even want to think about how much was spent on that.

Re: Do I dare ask how much you have spent?
I basically paid $500 for the truck (72 chevy) and since then put 1200 into it so I have $1700 in it now. I know its not a blazer but I have been told that I got an excellent deal considering the condition of my ride. Im sure after the body work, interior, wheels, bed lining and paint it will be over the $5000 mark, but it will be worth way more than that.
