Drop spindles won't turn to the right! Help!
Ever since I lowered the C10 is doesn't want to make right turns. It is fine going down the road but if you are trying to cut into a parking spot in a lot where the spots aren't angled... LOOK OUT! I have to back up a time or two to get it in there. I came to a 4 way stop today having to turn right with a van sitting on my right and I thought I wasn't going to make it. I have already gotten under the truck and had my wife cut the wheel all the way to either side and I can't see anything hitting. I had read a thread a while back about this and they were talking about trimming the spindle or the control arm but I can't see mine hitting anywhere. Am I missing something here? Somebody help me out here!
Thanks |

Did you jack the truck up by the suspension or the frame? (not an insult just asking) you have to have the suspension loaded to see where the contact would be. I haven't run into this problem yet so I can't help with what to trim unfortunately. It's also a good idea to make sure the steering box is centered.

It doesn`t sound centered. How is the turn signal canceler? When using the right blinker, does it want to click off real easy?Like when turning a little back to the left to correct?

Re: Drop spindles won't turn to the right! Help!
When the steering box isn't centered 1/4 turn is where the double notches are in the splines on the shaft so it may not be centered. If it's not contacting anything I would turn the steering lock to lock and count the turns then go half of that back and see what you get. if the wheels are turned to the left you may have to center the pitman arm again. maybe even try the lock to lock thing while jacked up to make sure it doesn't turn more when it's unloaded. (remember to use jackstands)

Re: Drop spindles won't turn to the right! Help!
Sometimes the droop can get things off a little but I have also gotten new or reman boxes that wern't centered when I got them. I have also thought I had them centered and somehow moved them when putting the pitman arm on. Basically I'm just trying to help with some stuff to check but I'm definitely not saying this is the problem without a doubt. Hope this helps a little.

Re: Drop spindles won't turn to the right! Help!
Seems like there is a difference in steering stop location on the lower control arm. Maybe the 67-68 being different than the others? Maybe someone can chime in. Maybe I'm just dreaming,...

Re: Drop spindles won't turn to the right! Help!
This may be off base, but when making a left turn, it will appear sharper than making a right turn due to the driver being in the left seat. If you have a dirt area that you can drive the truck (a place that will leave tracks), mark a line in the dirt for a reference point, turn the wheel a 1/4 of a turn and do a 180 (hold the wheel at a constant position). Put the truck back at the same spot and do the same thing but in the opposite direction. Then you can measure your radius of turn and see if they are the same.

Re: Drop spindles won't turn to the right! Help!
I will add my two cents here since I've kinda been there before.I don't recall you saying a year.Anyways.Check to see if your drag link(the linkage between the idler arm and the pitman arm) is hitting the crossmember. If it is,take it off and turn it around!Don't ask how I know this! It's a clearance issue. You may have other issues to!OK,I'm done now.
