Power Steering Conversion & parts
Okay, so backing a trailer in a big old truck w/o power steering has finally become tiresome.
I need to convert over to P.S., but where should I scavenge to find the right donor parts & does having a long water pump setup make things any more difficult? How much does a conversion setup usually go for? Thanks, John

Re: Power Steering Conversion & parts
I just did mine. You need a pump, pump brackets, Power steering gearbox, hoses, and a rag-joint (joins steering shaft to steering box). My no-power steering rag joint had a different inside diameter than the power steering one. So I had to have a power steering rag joint to be able to join them. Also, make sure when you buy the power box that the pitman arm is included or you'll need to get one. Manual pitman arm does not fit the power box.
Check the "for sale" section of this board. I've seen many up for sale....from components to the entire system. Prices vary by condition of parts but you ought to be able to get into power steering at a reasonable cost. If you buy used stuff, be sure to flush it out well. My components had all kinds of "goodies" inside from 35+ years of riding around ! |

Re: Power Steering Conversion & parts
Just found what you are looking for on the for-sale board. $125.00 complete ! Tee-it-Up has it. I've bought from Randy before. Good guy.
Good luck ! |
