Best tools for cutting c-notch?
Other than a plasma cutter (left mine in my other pants), what do you guys recommend for cutting the frame for a c-notch?

^ + eleventy billion.
Sawzalls are great! you could always use a gas torch too! (but sawzall leaves a nice cut, not chunky slag that needs to be ground(like plasma and gas) but I guess you'd want to grind anyways, if you're preping to weld it together |M|

Re: Best tools for cutting c-notch?
I've heard of guys using a hole-saw. Seems like it would be the perfect tool for a c-notch if you are using round tube.

Re: Best tools for cutting c-notch?
Guys, I appreciate the faith you all have in me but this c-notch will be a bolt-in. I can't weld... there I said it! Thanks for all the tips though. I might try the jigsaw out seeing as I own one of those already.

Oil the blade periodically while you are cutting and the jig saw should work fine for you.

Re: Best tools for cutting c-notch?
I just did mine yesterday. Here's what I did.....
First I scribed the line I was going to cut, then in the upper two corners I used my Unibit (step-bit) and drilled holes there. You want to keep the upper edges rounded to eliminate possibilities of spider cracking in the corners. Then, I broke out the sawzall and started at the bottom and made my cuts up to the holes I drilled. From there, I just used a cut-off wheel to cut the horizontal line between the 2 holes. Cutting for the notch is the easy part!! The PITA was all the rivets you need to get out. Some are hard to get to with the air chisel.

Re: Best tools for cutting c-notch?
For the first several that I did all I used was a .040 thick cut off wheel on a 4.5" grinder. I also used this for cutting off teh riviot heads before beating them out with a single jack and a big drift. Works great but now I use a Plasma and when operated right their is no slag to grind off that is what is so nice about them
