Brought home a new ride.....SADLY!!!!!!!!!
My best and oldest friend of 36+ years died in a tragic motorcycle crash 3 weeks ago. He was 38 years old. He was riding in the Deals Gap,(Tail of the Dragon) area on the North Carolina side and for some reason drifted into the other lane of traffic and was struck and killed by a 2005 F-250. He was not speeding and he was not racing...something happened?!?!?!?! Anyway....we had built this truck when we were kids and he still had it 22 years later. There had been changes over the years but it remained about like it was when we built it. He was single and never married (smart man). His parents could think of no better home for the truck than my house....so I brought it home. It has a stout 327 and a 4 speed. 60's all the way around.
This is also his 1973 Massey Ferguson 135 diesel tractor if you know of anyone looking. We are selling for his parents http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MESE%3AIT&rd=1 Last edited by 72freak; 06-20-2006 at 06:18 PM. |

That's horrible, it was good of his parents to give it to you to have some closure. I used to live in Maryville, TN and saw many people get hurt and killed in Deals Gap. Take good care of it and honor his memory.

Re: Brought home a new ride.....SADLY!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry for the loss of your friend. A group of us rode down from Indiana to do the dragon (www.tailofthedragon.com) last week on our Harleys. That road (318 curves in 11 miles) is dangerous. Last Thursday, a rider was killed when he crossed the centerlane, overcorrected and hit a tree. The speed limit is only 30 or less on the dragon, but many of the sportbike riders race through there. We rode our " Geezer Glides" and were passed by many of them. I am sure you will have a passenger in spirit when you drive his beautiful truck.

Man I hate to hear that about your friend, we are not far from the dragon and love to ride it on the roadking. It's a crazy road . I had a cousin that got his first Harley and not even two weeks after he got he got killed. He ran of the road and hit a pole.It makes you think evey time you throw ya leg over the seat. Think of all the good times you guys had building on that truck. Smile for him when you take it for a spin.

Re: Brought home a new ride.....SADLY!!!!!!!!!
That is one dangerous road. There are a lot of accidents on that road. I used to live in Maryville, TN also. Most people drive to fast on that road. It scares me when I am driving my Yukon on the road. You never know when someone is going to cross the center line. And if someone does, there is no where for anyone to go. In most spots, there are not any shoulders on the road.
But that is a very nice truck.
