Direct bolt-on for 60' Chevy 1/2 ton??
Hello, Does anybody know of a direct bolt-on or close to it for the front-end(control arms, spindles, disc brakes, ect...) for a 60' chevy from a newer truck. I have seen where you can do this for 67-72's ok but not as old as a 60'. Also what year trucks can I use to get a power steering set-up and a tilt steering colum from? I'm sure this has been covered a hundred times but I'm a newbie and just statring my project. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I did my 62 (which would be the same as your 60) using a complete 86' chevy c10 spindle to spindle. pb, ps, disk front drum still in rear hope to swapping out the 10 bolt this next weekend and putting in the 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear, want to upgrade to rear disks too.

I have the stock front end I just had the torsion bars pressed out and installed air ride... But Nathan at Porterbuilt street rods might have some ideas...Porterbuilt is his screen name...

Thanks guys for the advice. Are the torsion bars adjustable at all. Can I get very much drop out if them?

Torsion bars are NOT available, except perhaps used. Of course, they rarely fail, so it's not much of an issue.
You should be able to get a fair amount of drop with these. Don't forget that when you adjust them, you then have to get your front end re-aligned, as it will change your camber (or was it caster? I don't remember now). B |

Mine someone else done it, but they took a 74 GMC frame and installed the 60 body on top of it. I have had to redo most of it as they welded the truck to the frame. I have went in and added extensions to the frame mounts for the cab so I can hook up the cab mounts. When I redo it later this year, I am gonna redo all the mounts so they don't look bad. Right now their just C channel welded to the frame mounts.

You can lower the front about three or four inches with the stock torsion bars. I had mine like that for awhile before I decided to go with the bags. I used a 5" drop coil in the rear, it handled nicely.. Good Luck..

Do you need to get a panhar bar if I drop it 5" in the rear?. I may go the way you did(drop with torsion in front and drop coil in rear untill I get further along with the project). Do I need to get shorter shocks or will the original shocks work?.................

You'll need an adjustable panhard bar. Rear shocks will need to be shorter, get some good gas ones if you can. I don't know if anyone makes a shock relocation kit for the 60. If they do, put one in. They move the shock so it sits straighter, giving better dynamics in the up and down motion.
I look at suspension work as a place to do everything right the first time, it saves you a lot of time and money in the long run.

Hello everyone, NEWBIE here. I just finished up my front suspension upgrade on my '62 short step. I used a 85 suburban front crossmember and components. rebuilt it with parts from Performance Online. Added a 1-1/4 swaybar. Dropped it 3 inches in front with coils and 5 inchs in back with coils. Made my own panhard bar with tubing and Hiems joints. Made my own shock relocators in rear and front. I am using A (stock) length Monroe gas shock for the suburban front on all 4 corners. Also added a 5 lug 12 bolt rear from a '72.

just buy drop spindles for your year truck.they will let you use calipers and rotors from an eighties c10.then fine tune the height with the torsion bars.i don't know of any suppliers of a panard bar for a 60.
