Poss. Rear Main Seal leak. Engine comp. progress pic.

changed: power valve in holley 4 barrel, spark plugs/wires, air filter/valve covers, alternator, master cylinder, Intake, Battery, Radiator & heater core. So far I cant complain about the power this motor gives out. Im still tracking down one of the two oil leaks found, one of which is the timing cover. The other seems to be coming from the RMS hopefully its either the oil pan gasket, or the sending unit but I dont see it there either. Im using about a half a quart of oil for a 30 mile round trip. Oil only leaks when I run the motor and is a steady drip until minutes after shut off. The symptoms are likely leaning towards it being the RMS. Lets hope not

Re: Engine compartment its rough but making progress!

take a deep long look and clean it and then look some more. i assumed my RMS was leaking but it was just the oil pan. i say just the oil pan, i still havent fixed it. i took the oil pan off already and thought i did but it still leaked

Could it be your oil line fitting on the back of the intake?. I replaced mine this week. GM sells a 1 ounce bottle of UV leak detector that will show you the problem. Cost is about $8

Also check the distributor gasket. The RMS is not that hard to replace, just takes raising the motor about 4.5" and a steady hand getting the pan back in.

If you just put a new gasket set in there (rebuilt it or what ever), it may just be the pan gasket. Roll under there with your sockets and snug up the bolts holding the pan on. It is common on a new engine for those to loosen up after a few miles as your gasket crushes.

Re: Engine compartment its rough but making progress!

All of you gave me some great advice I will further inspect everything noted this weekend and post my results. This motor was rebuilt 60,000 miles ago and I hadnt noticed the leak out of the flywheel cover until after I replaced the intake. But then again I hadnt driven it at all until recently either. If I cant find the leak in the areas you guys suggested or after tightening my oil pan. I will buy some of that dye and find it that way. Thanx again for all your help!
