Re: 89,86burb & 84blazer for parts

Not sure what help I am but I use the following for shipping rates since that is all I have locally for use.

www.ups.com Insured shipping to $100 without further cost.
www.usps.com Insureance cost is like $1.35 or so

They both have an area which will give "approximate" shipping quotes per dimensional size and weight of a package. Pretty easy to use. I usually PM the purchaser for a zip code which helps figure the cost of shipping an item. I try and package each item in smallest shipping container possible since like most people I would want the part or item and not an over sized box of shipping peanuts/packing. If in doubt, go overboard on the packing protection, better than a broken part. When I have figured the shipping amount I PM the buyer again stating the two differant shipping quotes and leave the decision with them as to which shipping method is used. Any questions or other info you would need feel free to PM me and I will do my best to fill in any gaps. After a couple times of shipping you will get the idea pretty well.

Re: 89,86burb & 84blazer for parts

alright here it is . I finally got something typed up and thank goodness I'm getting paid to do it at the SLOW rate that i type . crossy

Shipping basics. In my area there are some things to consider. I basically only have UPS www.ups.com and U.S.mail (PO) www.usps.com that are accessible to me. I use a local drug store to drop off my UPS packages to after I have made my own labels and tape the labels on good using clear packing tape. It is no problem getting signed up on UPS and there is $3 per package benefit to making your own labels over getting them picked up. I have no UPS depot/store near me so those are my only two choices. I make my own labels on regular paper and tape them on using the clear tape completely over the label. Make sure the bar code is not all wrinkled or smudged. I drop them off at the drug store that has ALMOST daily pick up , but I have had packages sit there for 3 days. If you drop a lot of packages there remember the store owner at Christmas cause he’s saving you at least $3 per package pickup. If you call UPS for an occasional pick up then have all the size, weight and destination info ready. If you have a UPS, PO, Fedex,(FX) and DHL all near you than your lucky.
UPS is higher than Fedex www.fedex.com and DHL www.dhl-usa.com. The heavier the package is the more the price changes so go with convenience. If the package is 30# or heavier , or oversize It is worth me running 12 miles with to get to Fedex in Delaware across a $3 toll bridge because of the price difference. I use USPS priority for almost all packages under 10#. Anything over about 8# and the prices separate pretty quick and UPS starts to look like a REAL bargain over the PO by the time you get to 15#
If you don’t do a lot of packing then you can continue in whatever way you choose to wrap the packages, but I bought a 2” wide dispenser and it makes the packaging go a lot smother and quicker. If you are going to buy one tape it should be a roll of 2” clear. I have 2” clear, brown, and strapping tape all in their own dispensers. keep a roll of strapping tape also even if it is only a loose ¾” roll as it is strong and great to wrap all 3 ways around a box that contains something heavy. The trick to any package is to not let the item move around in the box. Use anything light weight to jam it in the middle of the box and keep it there. I use hunks of broken up Styrofoam or ball up bubble wrap or if there is a lot of room around an irregular shape I make up a hollow ‘false wall’ out of scrap cardboard. Speaking of bubble wrap it has become my best friend for careful packing. I looked in the yellow pages under ‘packing supplies’ and wound up buying a 300 foot roll that is 4 foot tall and is perforated every 12” so it is easy to’ rip’ down to size. The whole roll only cost $40. the only problem with it is it would not fit in the house at first cause the roll is about 5 foot diameter! I had to keep it in/out of the garage a while till I used some of it up.

Girth is something you are going to have to learn about quickly with truck parts because most are large . Girth equals the two smallest numbers x 2 PLUS the largest number. Say you have a typical 12x12x12 box than its 12x2(24) + 12x2(24) + 12=60” girth, but take your average 81-87 truck grille. 14=(28)x 4=(8) + 55= 91 so even though you have only a 10 # box you are being charged for 30# because it is oversize #1.
Girth breakdowns are up to 84” is NORMAL, 85” to 108” is oversize #1 by UPS, FX or DHL, but known as ‘LARGE’ to the PO, 109” to 130” is oversize #2 by UPS, FX or DHL, but known as just ‘OVERSIZE’ to the PO.

Don’t forget to check the box that says ‘RESIDENTIAL” unless you know you are sending to a business. It is about $1 cheaper to mail to a business and UPS will not let that slide by. THEY always round up to the nearest whole number so regardless if you think your 12.5”(25) x 4.5”(9) x 50” box will just make the 84” girth limit, they are going to call it 13x5x50 and you are oversize #1. What it all boils down to is you better not make a quote at shipping something until you have taken some careful measurements, allowed for cushion room around it if needed and figure up the girth. I make my own boxes by cutting down boxes. If you need it 12 x 12 x 20 then mark it up as 11.5x 11.5 x 19.5 before you fold it. Use the back side of a razor knife or box cutter, pressing lightly , to score the cardboard and it will bend right over on the mark. I keep a yardstick next to my packing table for the long lines.
The local body shop dumpster it great for huge boxes. Sometime I just take a razor knife and cut a large straight flap out that I can take home and bend/cut into what I need. Most body part boxes are made of heavy cardboard and very strong. They are also heavy in weight though so watch that.
UPS is good for up to 150#
PO is good for up to 70#
I shipped a Muncie trans by UPS, but I built a light wooden crate out of scrap pallet material around it and just wrapped the wood with cardboard otherwise you know the Muncie would be out of the box within 10 miles of the pick up point!

Great write up Crossy.

Boss I called a couple places on the shipping and right now I couldn't afford the shipping and the springs. If you still have it here when I get some $$$ freed up I'll PM you to see if you still have them.

Re: 89,86burb & 84blazer for parts

Is the 89 a 4x4? I'm looking for a 241 transfer case for Passenger side drop out of a 88-91. I need one with a 32 spline input but could change it out if it's a 27 spline.

skeet85silverado i will take some better pics of it so you can make sure you want it ok?

alf4444 TBI setup for everything for it how about $175 plus shipping? I am not sure on the shipping as if you want it all like the intake and exhaust it will be large and heavy, and i would need a couple of days to get it off.
