Does anything go between the two? Seam sealer, 35 year Caulk?? Nothing???

Just got my inner fenders back and I am ready to put these babies on! Thanks for your help!

Nothing in there from the factory as far as I have ever been able to tell. You could use something, but I think that is one of those areas that is better not sealed up, less chance of rust starting there if water can just drain out.

Ok , Cool....then this old tile setter gonna run a good bead of clear acrylic latex 35 year caulk. Thank Green Machine & GQ!

My GMC had seam sealer between the core support and inner fender but nothing between the inner and outer fenders. I believe the sealer provides corrosion protection at the fastener and noise damping. The sealer should be applied over painted parts not bare metal.

Everythings painted...I will get the inner and outer fenders sealed up tight tight tight. I've been waterproofing things for 25 years and exterior 35 year caulk in clear can be sqwished tight together and the acrylic latex version lays flat and smoothe with a fine sponge. Then a finger and a sponge I'll fill the inner and outer seam.....NO Water to get in...No Water to drain out.

Nice job on those inner fenders!. You should be ok with latex but I really like silicone because it becomes "rubber" and won't shrink or get hard. I would lay a narrow bead on the underside of the outer fender and let it cure overnight. My 2 cents.

Hey, what did you have done to the wheel side of the inner fender? Is it just regular paint or something other? I will be painting both sides of mine as well (when I can ever get to that point). I will be using the rock guard that the newer vehicles have on the lowers to protect against chipping...It is basically clear but like plastic or something in it to keep from chipping.

It looks just like the engine bay side, the new painter did a fantastic job. Gosh you just made me think maybe I better clear bra the road side of these inner fenders before I put them on???? What do you guys think?

My wife and daughter would kill me if I put my truck parts on thier pool table!
Gonna have to stand on it to hang the new light that the wife won on epay tho! Nice job on them. Dont think i'd wanna drive it in rain or snow either.

Im going to Linex the tire side of mine, that will provide protection; sound dedining, and make it look more like factory undercoat. I like the idea of something between the fender and wheelwell (for sound insulation). Let us know how it goes.

Hey Just A Note On Using Silicone. Silicone Can Make Parts Rust Because Of Something In The Chemical Making. I Personally Have Seen This Occur. I Would Use Latex For This Reason.

I plan to use chassis black epoxy paint over rubberized undercoating on the underside.

Is the 35 year calk a latex, urethane or silicone based? Just curious because the urethane seam sealer I've used in the past seems to shrink and crack.

Man, that piece looks dripping wet, as does the whole truck!
I've not seen any caulk used between the fender and inner fender before. As an alternative to silicone caulks one could use something like automotive strip caulk. Isn't harmful to any paint.

Thanks Everyone!!! The caulk is Acrylic LATEX. I've used it in waterproofing lots of things. What nice about is while its wet it will clean up with water........it's not like working with silicone caulk where you can' t smoothe it at all.
