Stock Height Question

Hi guys,

I have a 72 stepside that I bought pre-lowered, but not done correctly. It was clamped rear springs and cut front ones. I was trying to figure out how much I need to drop it to get the look that I want, but I have no idea how much it is dropped now. So to get to the point, what is the stock height of my C-10's fenderwells so I can see if I need to go with a 3/5 or 4/6 drop. Thanks for any help you can give. Also on a side note, what is your opinion on the best drop system for the money? ECE, CCP, other?

Re: Stock Height Question

ECE gets my vote for static drop components.

Re: Stock Height Question

Just go 4/6 and be done with it. I second using ECE.

Re: Stock Height Question

Thanks guys, with a 4/6 drop will some 20's fit under it fine? I was planning under putting 20's in the rear and 18's in the front and just want to clear out as much fenderwell as possible.

Re: Stock Height Question

Shouldn't be a problem. What size tires are you looking at.

Re: Stock Height Question

I believe the tires are a 275/40/20 and 255/40/18. I would like to get rid of as much gap as possible

Re: Stock Height Question

If you go to ECE's website, they have pics to show you what the truck will look like at different drops vs. stock height. It'll help you get an idea of how low it will be. You should be fine with those tire sizes, just make sure you get the proper offset for your wheels.

Re: Stock Height Question

Thanks for the input. Just curious on the setup you ran on your 67, whats the total cost for the bag system? Just wondering if I should go ahead and bag it, or springs & spindles

Re: Stock Height Question

My truck had drop spindles on it when I bought it, and 4" drop springs out back. I cut 1 coil up front and put 1-1/2 blocks out back. That lasted about 8 months and was not low enough so I decided to bag it. I started by putting a bolt-in c-notch, then bagged it. Total price of parts alone was about $1200 including fittings. I did all the work myself with the help of a friend. Paying someone else to do it will run you around 2g's. It really wasn't that hard to do it. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll help however I can.

Re: Stock Height Question

The factory height is 32in front and 34in rear. I have a 72 SWB fleetside with a 3.5/5 drop. I have 20x8.5 and 20x10 Bonspeed Malibu. The tires are Yokohama Paradas in 255/45-20 and 295/45-20 and I have no clearance issues.

Contact Newstalgia for all your wheel questions. It is very hard to beat their prices and their excellent customer service.

Good Luck!!!

Re: Stock Height Question

20's and 18's on 4/6 should be perfect. Just make sure you get a pretty good offset on the front wheels so you can turn without any worries of rubbing the fender.

This dimension is useless unless you have the original size wheels and tires. A better dimension would be from the center of the wheel to the fender lip. This was discussed on here a while back and I think we came up with 19" for the front and 22" for the rear.
