What did you get done?

Well another weekend of being on call so I got nothing truck related done. I guess I can't say "nothing" since I did detail 3 trucks. I spent Saturday at a volleyball tournament watching my daughters high school team play. They got a really bad start but still managed to place 3rd.

During my running around this weekend I stopped at 9 different auto parts stores looking for a 3M stripe off wheel. I got 6 blank stares, one guy showed me a small wire wheel, and one guy went in the back and brought out an abrasive wheel.....

So I got 4 emblems off my 06 Silverado the hard way. I used the fishing line trick to cut them off then spent an hour or two with WD40 and my thumbnail getting the rest of the glue off. Needless to say I did NOT take the side moulding off.

What did you get done? I will spend next week looking for one of these-

Re: What did you get done?

I didnt get much done. We took down a paint booth that we bought from another shop and hauled it over to our shop. I wasnt real motivated to work on my truck, so i came home and worked on a 68 that I am wiring up a TPI setup on. I'll take some pics when I get all the wiring cleaned up.

Re: What did you get done?

I installed a computer controlled distributor in my 84. I upgraded to Megasquirt-II which can control the ignition timing and fuel a while back, but am just adding the ignition timing part. It's already much better than the MSD pro-billet I had in there, the 8 pin HEI module gives a nice clean tach signal to the computer. I used the distributor and coil that came with my Ramjet intake. They are regular production pieces, so any replacement parts I might need in the future will be easy to get also.

I don't have this truck running quite as well as my GTO yet with the EFI, but its been a lot better than it ever was with the Holley 750 (and I wasn't complaining then!). It also knocks down 17 mpg so I'm pretty happy. This upgrade might even improve that a tad.

I did that and worked 18 hours this weekend. I've worked about 40 of that last 50 weekends because of the project I'm on in the shipyard. It's getting old and I'm not getting anything done on my projects.

Re: What did you get done?

Ken, go find a paint jobber in your area. They should have plenty of those 3M eraser wheels with a mandrel. We use them in an air drill. It will take a bit to get the hang of it, but it's really no problem. Or, you could just pop into a body shop and have them do it. I can't imagine anyone charging more than an hour to do it.

Re: What did you get done?

I helped tinker a little out @ the shop & got the 'on the ground' pre-view of an awesome ride that will debut @ the Ft.Worth GoodGuys show.

I stayed late(er) @ work a couple of nights during the week & managed to get all the bushings & stuff in some ART arms. After I left the shop on Saturday, I got the arms mounted on my Beater to verify that everything clears the notched c-member. It's been a while but now there's a complete front suspension under those framerails. Of course it will all come back apart for a quick coat of color but @ least it functions w/o interference.

Today was spent @ work finishing up on details to keep an on-going project on schedule & watching the Cowboys actually play a game of football (vs. last week when they watched the other team play ).

Re: What did you get done?

I don't believe my brother needed an eraser for his '06 trim. He said it pretty will just pulled everything right off.

as far as me? I spent the whole weekend replacing a core support in my wagon. GM was so intelligent when they made these things that you have to pull the inner and outer fenders as well as the hood just ot replace the core support.

As far as the truck, I delivered the cab to the body shop so hopefully I'll have some neato updates soon!

Re: What did you get done?

I am not a 73-87 Guy , but I do love these truck
I check this thread ever week , I figured what the hell , Id throw down

I have a 64 swb step side with a dropmember and bags etc,

I went to a auction sale of an old auto wrecker in town , and came out with a pretty sweet 66 short fleet box ..... for $5 , its not prefect but its really really straight with a spot of rust above the wheel well on each side , but for the price im sure I can afford some patch panels ,

other then that I went out and bought a new frame , I am rebuilding my truck this winter with a Z up front and a new rear back half

the motor will be gettin freshened and Ill be upgrading to a comp 274 xe cam, and a set of roller rockers , and hopefully some new heads

I have a built 700 r4 waiting as well , If you guys wanna hear about it and see it Ill keep posting!

Re: What did you get done?

Slammed66- This weekly thread is for anyone that wants to post. I stole the idea fromTX Firefighter another forum member and started using it here. Feel free to keep us updated no matter what it's about.

Jonboy- Yeah I know the local paint store will have them, but I can't seem to find time to catch one through the week. The truck will be at my buddies body shop as soon as I get my parts gathered up. In the meantime I was tired of looking at the emblems.

1987 Shortwide- I don't think the side mouldings leaves any adhesive behind if it's hot enough. The Chevrolet-Silverado emblem on the tailgate is another story...

Re: What did you get done?

I went junkyarding on Friday and got some bucket seats, Rally wheels, and a bunch of other misc items. Saturday I spent the entire day installing a heater in my garage...with most of the work involving digging the trench for the gas line . Sunday I cleaned and reorganized the garage, and watched the Twins the Vikings and the NASCAR race. The Vikes are 2-0, the Twins won and are now one game out of first and have a four game lead in the wild card...good day for MN sports.

Re: What did you get done?

Spent the whole weekending helping a buddy do an engine swap -- Pulled his 6.2TD, and installed a NA 6.2 in it's place.

Less some issues getting the truck to start properly on it's own, it is running way better now, and is also ready to go to the new owner... Next weekend I'll go pick up my new 96...

Yep, you're right. We had to fight those emblems to the death, and if you get a bright flourescent light on the spots you can still see the minor scuffing from trying to polish and such on that new paint. It'll need some buffer attention to be perfect again, that nice black paint would bring me to an early grave....

Re: What did you get done?

I started my vacation and celebrated my b-day. I partied way too much and paid for it the next day. It's been raining here off and on so it's been hard to do anything to the trucks. I did manage to give the truck a tune up. The blazer needs some TLC desperately. I'll have to get out there and get the thing running.

Re: What did you get done?

I helped a buddy completly re-organize his garage for some new toys that we purchased! We had to re hang some cabinets, cut down the size of the workbench, and clean. We now have a press, blast cabinet, powder coat gun and a new oven for powdercoating! I guess that there won't be much of an excuse for not getting anything done now.

Re: What did you get done?

Friday - installed the window felt on my DD '87 for the passenger side. (took pics, so I will be posting in on my tech page)
Saturday - installed the Drivers side window felt on my DD. Pulled the wheels off the Jimmy and put it on stands to better access the bushing bolts and prepare for dropping the tank. Put the Jimmy's tires on the Burb and removed the factory aluminum wheels from the burb to remove the clearcoat, clean them up and reclear them. Picked up the Permatex Gasket Cleaner for clearcoat removal. Vacuumed out the interior of the DD. Tinkered with the 6.0L wiring harness some more.
Sunday - had the tires removed from the Aluminum wheels, removed the Clear from 3 of the 4 rims, replace the A/C illumination bulb on the DD

Re: What did you get done?

I replaced the heater core (what a PITA), all the radiator hoses, flushed the system, washed the truck, and started rubbing out the engine bay. Didn't get very far though. I should be able to finish it next weekend... I hope... I also have to Simichrome the wheels next weekend... fun...

I got some work done on the 41 sedan! Almost ready to put the body back on the frame! Also got the trunk floor roughed out so I begin to mark out the fuel tank.
