What did you get done? 10/01
I had a really busy week but I did get a few "truck" related thinsg done. Nothing to my 77, but I got parts for my 06.
I watched my daughters High School volleyball team play the finals of a tournament on Saturday. The fought some hard battles and won the championship. After that, I loaded up and went to the Goodguys show in Ft. Worth. I missed the big party that Stoke Out put on Saturday night, but I got plenty of action on Sunday. My buddy Keith (n2billet) won a Clissic Trucks "Top 10" award. I met with forum member 72CSTC5 (Carlos) and his beautiful girlfriend. He was kind enough to order couple of boxes of GM parts for my truck and deliver them at the show. We had lunch together with Keith, and talked trucks for a few hours. I'll post pics later. What did you get done? Here's n2billet and "Lucy" in the award line...

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
I started working on my 73 C10 that I just got. Mainly just changed the oil and cleaned out the engine with Berrymans carb cleaner poured down the carb and into the crankcase. Runs a lot better now but need to ditch the points distributor. I need to replace the master cylinder and find the trans leak on the turbo 350. I also replaced the carb on my 78 Datsun 620 truck, Chevy is a lot easier to work on.

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
My grandpa had a heart attack and had to go to the hospital (he's okay now though ) but I did get one thing done. I got the tiny little spring that is used on the ash tray and FINALLY got it up and working. That thing has been held by duct tape or just hung there forever. Changes the whole look of my interior

Worked on my sons 78 camper speacial, fixed the lower hinge on the tailgate where the weld broke off, sadly he's having to sell it since he wants to buy a house, man I wish I could find a way to keep it but I already have 4 vehicles.

I went to the Goodguys Ft Worth show. I hung out with N2Billet for a while and taked projects. I also met with member Blaz-Air, and taked blazers. I had a great time.
I managed to miss N2trux on sunday. I didnt stay too long my daughter was kind wore out from a weekend of walking around. One of the best shows Ive been to in a while, and N2billet's truck is definitely one of the coolest you could ever hope to see. |

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
My wife and I went out on Canyon lake with a friend and his wife in their new boat. We had a blast.
Sunday afternoon was spent helping the same friend hang drywall. Sunday evening was spent grocery shopping, then grilling hamburgers and sausage over charcoal with a little mesquite added for some flavor. I'm still feeling the effects of the sinus infection I have been fighting for the last two weeks. Everything I do leaves me exhausted, so I am not getting much done. Slonaker |

Got a LineX spay on bedliner for the 82' Sierra Classic. Black on Black, it sure looks fine. The boy took it back to college before I could get a photo... I will get pictures as soon as I can.. probably next week though. It sure made a difference in how she looks. At $496 for the complete job with over the rail, it is kinda pricey, but should be worth it in the long run.

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
Flew down to Dallas and went to Goodguys... Spent the day in the sun and met BAGGED74 and got to talk some cool blazer stuff. Later on I went over to Stoked Outs shindig and got to me Keith (n2billet) and missed Ken (N2trux). Keith and I have some mutial friends that I did not know about and had a great time talking to him about Stoked Out and his truck. Cool stuff going on there. Missed Carlos on Saturday but still had a great time. I almost bought that black 36 ford convertible that was on airride and red steelies. I could really see myself in that thing.

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
Friday I made an ALDL Interface cable to log my '87 R10 and my '90 Suburban using winALDL. Works really well.
Saturday I started Troubleshooting a problem with my '90 Burb that I haven't had time to work on. Once you crank it up and it gets warm and drive it. Eventually when you apply the brakes it dies. I am thinking it is a vacuum leak, but... I also started on replacing the Body Bushings on my Jimmy. Got the tank dropped, fuel fill removed and PB Blasted the bolts/nuts Sunday: Started on removing the bolts/nuts from the Jimmy. All but 3 came out/off. I had to tack one bolt to the body to get the nut off on the back and I had to cut the floorboard to weld the captured nut bracket back down. I imagine I will have to do the otherside this way also. Should route the new EFI lines once that is done.

pulled the motor on my 62 and ordered a new govener gear for it (thing revs so high i thought it would blow up and man it pops wheelies) Filled the bed of my truck up with junk for winter storage in the garadge. gotta wash it and put its cover on for the long haul over winter and add some stay bill. also am going to look at a 1974 super beetle this weekend and it would be my first frame off resto(figure start small and simple and one day work my way up to a 67 to 72 402 4 on the floor burb)

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
I unloaded my "new" cab, got it sitting on a rolling dolley and started pulling it apart. I will be tearing my 70 SWB down to the frame this winter and re-building it. My truck looks pretty good from the outside but the cab is really rotten. I bought a solid cab and front clip shown in the pics below for $2500 Canadian. I came complete with all the glass, front clip including inner and outer fenders, rad support (out for sand blasting, powder coating, etc) as well as a complete grill, bumper and lights.
Let the fun begin.

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
Well, I didn't get a whole lot done, other than putting my toys away for the winter...
77 is gonna get pulled apart as I have time this winter -- Gonna be getting a new rust free cab and front clip, along with the box's rust repaired. Probally won't get a whole lot of re-assembly done, but I feel its worth fixing it up a bit so the new owner can make it nice with relatively little effort. With regards to drivetrain, I sold the 350 that is in it, and will be putting a bone stock TBI 350 in. It already has the electronics, and while it runs now, it definitely needs a lot of tuning to run well, and it is easier to just replace the engine. 700r4 will be stored away, as it is a heck of a good tranny, and it's original TH350 will go back in. 80 will get a set of new fenders, inner and out, a set of shocks, get the fuel fill finished, bolt the box down, and replace the cab corners. It'll then be dropped off at a bodyshop for them to make the body perfectly straight, and deliver it finished off and painted, as soon as cash allows of course. 96 will be my DD for the next few years, possibly put a 5.3 in to replace the 4.3 someday, but there isn't much to change otherwise. Once I'm done with the 80, I don't think I'll do a whole lot more major work, maybe a lift kit, but nothing more, so I think that the light at the end of the tunnel is pretty visible now Here is a pic of the girls all lined up -- They all drove there under their own power too! lol

sounds like you got a good plan worked out and hopefully the sale of the 77 will help fund the body and paint on the 80. Btw are you going for the stock colors when you do get it redone ? Good luck with it

Truck is faaaar from stock though... I'm sure many of you guys remember it starting as a 2wd 3/4 ton, with a 350 and TH400 -- now the crazy thing is a 3/4 ton frame / front diff, but 1 ton springs, with a Tuned Port Injected 355, SM465 / NP205... Everything I've touched is basically brand new. Frame is all painted up, all new steering, suspension, and brakes. Engine is basically brand new, and I just rebuilt both the tranny and t-case. I've got just over 14 000 cnd invested right now, and once I get the bodywork done, and find / install a nice 81+ black interior, the truck will have cost me just under 20 000, but be brand new inside and out, and need nothing As I mentioned, I may still lift it and put some bigger tires on, and possibly may swap the TPI out with an LQ9 6.0L instead someday, but neither are requirements, nor will either be done for a couple years -- Wanna drive it next summer instead of just work on it like usual!

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
Nothing truck related. Went to the Alliance Airshow and saw the wonderful USAF Thunderbirds put on great show. Didn't go to the Show at Texas Motor Speedway, but saw a beautiful brown C20 Cheyenne at a gas station headed home. Definitely inspiration for my projects. Looks like there was a great turnout at TMS, wish would have known about before last weekend...

Re: What did you get done? 10/01
I installed a overhead console and rearview mirror from a '97 Tahoe.
The overhead console has three compartments and the front one is for a garage door remote but i put my hair brush in it and the middle one holds my sunglasses and the last one is where i put my wallet and cell phone. I installed a power port in the front panel so i could put my little skull light in it. The rearview mirror is a Electrochromatic type meaning it absorbs any bright light from any vehicles behind you and it has the outside air temp and compass heading display in the upper right corner. |
