Tubular control arms, are they worth the $$$ - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm pretty new to the board. I've got a 68 C10 that I'm about to start tearing into the suspension. I plan on dropping it about 4" in the front and 5" or in the rear. It just depend on what rim combo I go with. Either 18's and 20's or so. My question is I've been looking at CPP's tubular control arms, etc. I'm wondering if these tubular ones are worth the cash. I've heard that the stock a arms flex alot. I'm planning on building what alot of guys on here don't like the so called "pro touring" look. I want to be able to go out and drive the truck really hard on the street. I plan on upgrading to disk front and rear and probaly go with CPP rear trailing arms as well. Just wondering if any off you guys are running and stuff from CPP. DO you like there stuff or would you recommend someother manufacture? Thanks

Some a-arms offer improved geometry; some are just for looks. Stock arms can be 'braced' to limit flexing for better performance but won't give you the better geometry for better high speed handling.

Only you can decide if it's 'worth the cash'. My bet would be that ART arms offer better performance vs. CPP's.

I have the A.R.T Strong Arms on my blazer. It is not done yet and I have not driven it even. I think they are already worth the price,just because they look so good...

Hey Kyle how thick are the a-arms compared to stock? I am running a 9.5in 20 on 255 35 r20 on my front and my a-arms rub on a full turn.

I am not sure, I am running 20 x 8 s. I am not running drop spindles so I do not have the clearance issue. I have had that problem on 73-87 trucks in the past. Maybe a different offset wheel would work better for you..

thise are pretty slick! did they come with the brackets to mount them? or is trhat something you came up with to improve the BJ angle or something.. where can i find ART products?

That is a Porterbuilt dropmember.http://www.porterbuiltstreetrods.com

Tubular arms do very little for geometery except caster changes. Many other factors need to be considered. I am just starting a front suspension for 67-72 trucks now designed for handling. Won't be finished until next year sometime. The rear will also be dealt with at the same time. You can't get much better than the truck arms that are already there.
