New motor with idle to fast
I have a 74 Chevy truck (no smog) that I took a 454 our of and put in a fresh 350 with headers an Edelbrock 2101 manifold and 2102 cam with the original quadrajet from the 454. I dipped the quad and installed a $15 rebuild kit and also removed the original 36B primary rods and installed 44B primary rods. The truck starts and sounds good but the idle is to high. I can turn both the fast idle cam and idle screw all the way down and can only advance the timing to 4 BTDC at 1000 rpm. I want to set the timing around 10 btdc but the idle will be way to fast. The idle is to low at start up then creeps up after a very short time after first starting. Any ideas? or ideas how to fix what is the matter with this truck.
Thanks Mike |

Re: New motor with idle to fast
It sounds like the choke needs to be adjusted.
