Factory Roll Bar

Help me out. Is this a factory roll bar? I've been told different things by different people.

Don't worry, these are old pictures, I have cleaned things up alot since then.

Re: Factory Roll Bar

Never were any "factory" roll bars, just dealer installed ones.
Mostly Smitty Built brand name.

Yours looks right but it's kinda hard to tell from those great pics...

Re: Factory Roll Bar

Oh, I thought they were truly "factory". Learn something everyday I guess...

I will see if I can get some better pics, possibly ones that you can actually SEE the roll bar Would it have Smitty Built stamped on it anywhere?

Re: Factory Roll Bar

has anyone ever posted dimsensions for the factory roll bar? I like the idea but im not sold on the short rear bars..the later model smittybuilt with longer rear bars looked killer in my 89....which i thnk was actually a 90....bad memory.

Not sure about anyone else but I'm running a quote FACTORY unquote roll bar "only" because it's what was offered when the trucks were new not for any real protection.

They're closer to what I'd call a light bar not a roll bar.

I'm sure it would help but if I knew I was going to need it, there'd be something different in there for sure.

Re: Factory Roll Bar

Most roll bar's you see are simply bolted to the floor and rear wheel tubs. They might prevent the blazer from "rolling" but not from crushing the driver if turned turtle without a hard top on it. A really good roll bar would go through the floor and mount to the frame. This way when turned turtle, a heavy duty bar would prevent the blazer from crushing the occupants---thereby allowing time for the gas to drain out the car, the tank---so that you would barbacue
properly with no damage to the meat!!! hehehehehe

Re: Factory Roll Bar

That appears to be "factory", just like the one that came with my Blazer.

I have actually sold mine, I think it looks better without it personally,
and like others have said, once it goes over it ain't gonna do much

Re: Factory Roll Bar

Thanks guys. Yeah, I realized that they were just bolted to sheetmetal, no real protection there. I think they look alright though. I plan on keeping mine, heck its one of the few pieces on my K5 that isn't rusted or beat up!
