rant n rave @ safelite
a couple months ago, my son and my rear view mirror on my 86 had a match of tug-o-war, my boy won, but some glass came off with the mirror.
Called safelite to replace, of course I was at work, left my truck in the driveway for them, they replaced, but it was not the correct one, the antenna wire was way off to the left, strecthing the antenna connection a few inches across top of dash... SO I called them back, come put right windshield in my truck, they came today while I was at work, the pinhead cracked the windshield at the bottom right under the antenna connection and put that black sealer over the crack on the inside to cover it up, it is noticeable from the outside, where the lamination is separated...called safelite back, the lady was a PITA about it. They are sending the guys back, and WILL get me a new windshield. Is it that hard to do it right? I guess so.. Thankfully in Florida, if you have insurance, car glass is replaced free. |

Re: rant n rave @ safelite
I don't bother changing my windshield until it breaks in front of my face (it's illegal to drive like that in AZ). Something hits my glass almost every day, it seems. I have a bunch of chips and now a crack right in the center. I even had a vent window shattered on the freeway once.
Putting in a new windshield here is just begging to get it broken (probably on the first day, too!).

Katie (girlfriend) bought a brand new car - 2006 Cobalt - last year and some stupid neighborhood kids busted out the back window. The guy at the glass shop thought we were kidding, since the car just came out. You're lucky w/ the insurance, I think they gave us a couple hundred bucks for a $1100 window.

Its like my dad says (read with a healthy dose of Sarcasm)
"Theres never enough time to do it right the first time, but theres always time to do it a second time." I had the windshield in my 73 shattered by a hailstorm a few years back. But the guy that showed up knew what he was doing and did a good job so i guess I got lucky.
