hey guys i have a 65' 1-ton duallie.It has the 5:14 rear gear is ther a place to get a 3:42 or a 3:73.I love driving it but dang it screams at 45 cant really drive it at 55.I do have a dana 60 out of a 68 that seems to be the right width on the leave spring pads.U-joint seems to be interchangeable.I just thought if i could keep the factory rear axle that i could maintain the origanol look.

About the best you can do with the old 10 bolt is 4.10. There were a small number of 3.90s and 3.73s, but I have only talked to one guy in several years that had actually seen one. There is an outfit cutting 3.90 gears, cost was just over $300 for the gears. This was on a thread at www.myoldtruck.com which is down for maintenance at the moment.

I would recommend either a 12 or 14 bolt full floater from a newer truck. A lot better rear end and you get better brakes. You just have to find one with the right gears and the right width. And you can always buy a u-joint with two cup sizes at your parts store, if needed.

Thanks for the info.I have used the swap joints you talk of in many of our 4x4 projects when we go from 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton axles.Do you not like the dana 60 rear axle.It has theright width for the spring pads and i think it si pretty close in complete width.I plan on doing a complete disc brake conversion using 82' 1 ton front suspension and converting the rear to disc also using stuff we use in our 4x4 rock buggies.I still want to maintain some degree of nostaligia.The truck is equipped with a flat bed that is about as old as the truck itself.Not sure of the orign of the bed.Thanks for the help
