corner & rear glass instl??

Ok folks, I know fellow members have done it, I need some help!!
How in the world do you get the corner & rear glass in a 5 window cab?
My new rubber has a "locking" strip, I managed to get a corner glass in along with the rubber seal, but now I need to install the locking strip. Is this the right way? There has got to be an easier way. I did a search but found nothing.

Re: corner & rear glass instl??

I watched the installer put mine in and he used a tool, looked like a screwdriver but the end was a triangle that he slipped into the locking location on the gasket and followed it with the locking bead, wala it was done and I signed the check !!

That small tool is cheap you can get it from chevy duty or something. I have one if you want to use. I find a couple screw drivers work better.

Re: corner & rear glass instl??

I had spent all my time installing the power door windows and when I finished with them I called Tony the glass man. I had the rear glass and door glass cut long before I needed them, and when I was ready for the windshield I called him to install it and the corner glass and back window. This was a Pro shop and the guy came to my garage with a NEW one piece (54) WS
and was complete in less than a hour and NO scratches in the new paint. I think the whole bill for him was less that 250!

Re: corner & rear glass instl??

Thanks for the input guys, but I coudn't wait any longer, I got both the corner glass installed last night.
For the poor folks who need to install theirs I will explain how I got mine done.
Sorry for not taking pics, will try to put words to it.

1. Install the main rubber seal to the cab pinchweld first, putting the splice at the bottom closer to the inboard corner (but not in the corner)
You might think the rubber is too long but don't cut it, keep working it & it will fit.
2. start working the glass into place by slipping the lower inboard corner into the groove of the seal from the outside.
Work the rubber flange around the glass with a plastic knife (picnic silverware), while keeping pressure on the glass. Be sure to wrap some tape around the serrations of the knife or you will end up with a blister like me.
Once the glass is in place comes the hard part
3. Start working the "locking strip" into the groove, you can start anywhere, but I started at the area closest to the door opening (a less noticable location). After trial & error, I found that lubracating with vaseline worked the best by far. Started with soapy water, & all I got was a blister after about 2" or instl. The plastic knife worked good for the locking strip too.
Good luck on your instl. & I promise you will have 2 very sore finger tips when your done. I think it took me about 3 hours for both corner glass pieces.
Bottom line is pay the glass man if you don't mind letting others work on your truck.
Next step is the rear glass & winshield instl. Hopefully tonight.
