Gas Cap Fitment
So i just reinstalled the in cab gas tank with new rubber seals and such, and i was wondering how tight the gas cap was supposed to be? The new rubber gromet that goes right beneith the gas cap is a little thick when it overlaps the plastic "locking pipe" for the gas cap. I was wondering if maybe that plastic "pipe" was supposed to come out a little furthur or something? Thanks.....

Re: Gas Cap Fitment
the in cab tank is vented through the cap so i would say that as long as the caps not loose its fine.

Re: Gas Cap Fitment
I encountered the same thing..
I pulled the plastic pipe a little further out.. but it didn't seem to make a difference.. So, I just live with it being a tight fit.. Elias |

Re: Gas Cap Fitment
Did you replace the cap, or just the gasket? The newer caps are designed to seal tight and have a spring that will let air get sucked in, but not let vapors out. They also stop gas from spilling down the side. But they shouldn't require a strap wrench to remove. You could always take the gasket to the sander to thin it down a bit.

Re: Gas Cap Fitment
A new cap is under $10 at your local parts store. Azone shows them for $6. Has a stainless cover and should screw on properly. Best of all, it won't let gas run down the side of your truck.
Like I said, if you want to, thin down your gasket with a power sander. It's not easy, but it can be done.

Re: Gas Cap Fitment
well i hate using the plastic fill pipe if you can the steel matal one is the best one to go with i've had the fiber glass or platic ones and they crack so i found one that was out of a 1960--1966 truck and it worked
