73-87 retirement account

This goes along with the high priced 73-80 NOS headlight bezels...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9272&rd=1&rd=1

I am amazed that this is currently closing in on $500...D A M N!!

I had no idea these were that desireable.

Re: 73-87 retirement account

I guess I have a gold mine in my garage. I have two of those, but they probably aren't worth as much since they are reproductions. You know the ones that you can buy on line right now for a 100.00....

Re: 73-87 retirement account

That doesn't have holes for a logo, shouldn't a real GM piece have that ?

Re: 73-87 retirement account

He actually does have a set of matching bezels too. Each of them starts at $19.95. You'd have to stay on top of both auctions though otherwise you'd just end up with one.

Re: 73-87 retirement account

Well it’s no secret to a few guys on here that I sell parts to support this hobby, ( I only average about 10 a month) I am strictly a private seller and I don’t even come onto the forums here and advertise my ebay auctions or tell people who I am on there. There are few different things that can cause something like that to go that high.
1.) It is NOS which means it fits and I have no idea how the Taiwan/Chinese one fits.( I hope better than the doors do!)
2.) The fact that it does not have holes at all may be what is appealing to the people that are bidding big $.
3.) There are people out there(few) in the truck world that are as anal as Corvette restorers are. Muscle cars and Pony cars have already joined those ranks because their cars can be worth MORE than Corvettes now. I have lived and sold through all of these ‘phases’ and I prefer the guy that says ‘ hey, I just want a clean or useable one” because it is hard to find truck stuff that is truly ‘mint’. There are people out there that need to be anal now about their trucks because they are so well preserved like Ken’s or so much money was spent on bodywork and paint.
4.) Don’t forget good ol shill bidding. I work with a guy that I secretly turned in to ebay that I KNOW has shill bidders for him even though he does not need to with what his parts sales amount to off ebay. A lot of these guys forgot how hard it was to go from swap meet to swap meet and sell this stuff before Freebay and they are just plain ol greedy. The guy had asked me to bid some of his Camaro Chevelle parts up for him and I know a few of his friends ID’s and I watch them bid stuff up for him. I got a response from ebay like this . It could just be a favorite buyer of his products. My response, Oh yeah, than why do his same parts show up for sale 2-3 months down the road. No response from ebay. Set your own $ limit right of the bat, put in your proxy or sniper bid and walk away from it. Keep in mind that the shill bidder will cost you extra $$ even at that, but you have to set your $$ at the max you want to pay.
5.) If you think that is expensive than you haven’t seen anything yet. I saw a Cuda grille sell for $3500, GTX grille for $3200, a pair of 65 Chevelle rear taillight bezels for $3200, A USED! NOVA tach sell for $1800 and so on. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250087882632

ADVICE- NOS means New Old Stock, but that does not necessarily mean that it is out of stock. It may be out of production, but there are still plenty floating around in dealers and that’s why you should always CALL your dealer to ask before you pay big bucks for anything you find on line that may be as close as your local dealer. My local dealer in New Castle, Delaware sells out the door for wholesale also.

Re: 73-87 retirement account

Dave, I am aware of everything you stated...I was just posting this as I am surprised to see the 73-87 stuff take off like this. Proof their popularity is increasing and the days of getting inexpensive NOS parts may be coming to an end.

i'd like to know more on money order scam.i sell alot of golf clubs on money orders.i figure if the bank cash's them there o.k.if not, i'm not sending a club.i've been lucky so far, although i don't think the golf club market is a big scam target.i have learned one thing i ship usps insured.they have to sign for it.makes it a little harder to come back on me and say they never got it.
