starting issue
replpaced solinoid two times , here is my issue 65 230 motor. turn the key click like starter wants to engage, nothing , if you try again you get dim ligts on oil and gen light but no click or anything.... open the hood disconnect positive battery cable, reattached sometimes this works, but mostly I have to jump the solinoid using a screw driver between the battery cable post on the solinoid and the right termimal on the solinoid, again this only works sometimes. so any idea's ??
thx.. |

Re: starting issue
oh boy! Electrical problems drive me crazy.
Things to check -battery fully charged? - bettery terminals clean? - battery cables tight on post and at starter? -are cables old? ( I have seen what looks like a good cable but somewhere in the wire it was corroded, but you couldn't see it ) - is there alot of oil on the starter? , making a poor ground to the block. ( I never seen this as a problem but heard about it) The list goes on keep us updated maybe we can help. |

Re: starting issue
the one things that bites a lot of people, ground! make sure the battery has a good connection to the frame. and also a good ground strap from the motor to the frame. ive been bit by the ground bug way too many times.

Re: starting issue
yea make sure the starter is clean as well as were it mounts. Also (I'm sure you did) have you tested the starter it self? A bad bendix will do it.

Re: starting issue
I agree with bowtieguy61! My electrical probs always seem to be ground issues, usually a cleaning/conection issue. I have gotten in the habit of checking that first now...
