just bought a 79
recently purchased this 79 K10 4x4 reg cab short bed with 82000 originial miles. its got a new turbo 350 tranny and a 350 with a 4 barrel. the cab is solid but the bed is so rusted its about to fall off. i have been having some trouble finding information on this rig, and was wondering if someone could direct me to a site, or just give me some information on the details of the internals of the motor, such as 2 bolt or 4 bolt mains, what compression, how many quarts of oil, and so on. oh yea, i paid $1200.

The casting number that you're looking for is on on the top of the motor, passenger side under the alternator bracket. This will get you in the ballpark but to find out if you have 2 bolt or 4 bolt mains the only surefire way that I know of is to pull the oil pan and count. |

Re: just bought a 79
A stock 35 should take 5 quarts of oil (4+filter).
Most Older Chevy pickups have had so much changed on them over the years that it is hard to assume much at all about them. They are seldom completely stock. Slonaker |

Re: just bought a 79
lol, funny you should mention mirrors, I hate the sport ones with a passion - soo darn tiny, can't see nothing in them. The regular ones are better, beig enough so I can stick the wide-angle mirrors on them and still see everything around me, don't even need to look at the inside mirror no more.

I'm trying to decide between sport mirrors and elephant ears. I have the mini tripods now but don't like the way they look.

79...atta baby.look on the upper bell housing ledge for a cast number.clear back on passenger side of distributor.but on the block itself.very hard to see but it's there the mortec site will show the locations.i found it with a little mirror.if it's original 350, it would be something like 140163376.

Sweet looking truck, all you need is a lift and some bigger tires now.
