Which Heater core
I have a 1963 chevy truck with the deluxe heater. I am trying to get a replacement heater core and I keep getting asked if it's "fresh air" or "recurculated air"

If your heater core is inside the cab with only the hose nipples protruding thru the firewall, it's a recirculating heater. If the heater core is entirely in the engine compartment inside the heater box, with the fan below it, then it is a fresh air heater. Hope that helps.

Good luck finding the correct heater core.....I've had mine rebuilt 2 times because I could not locate the proper heatercore brand new. Let me know what you find.

I'm about to do a heater core too, mine started dumping water on the ground a few days back. From the sources (LMC, Napa) I see there are two heater core sizes. I have my box apart (it is the engine compartment "fresh air" style) and I see in the core mounting area the "outline" of where the larger core would fit. It would be about 30% more core. It seems to me that would give the heater some gusto, as it was, in mid winter the truck is cold.
Do you suppose it is worth the trouble? Anyoneknow if the tubes for the hose mounts have the same bends? Also, with that heater box out, I'm liking the clean look to the firewall. I've never seen the "deluxe recirculating" heater, do you suppose it would be a lot of trouble to convert to one? Would someone post a pic (or email to me) of the deluxe heater? |

i would also like to convert to one. i like the clean firewall look also. but my luck had to be that both my trucks are the fresh airs!!! so i would also like to see some pics.

Mine has the "clean firewall" this is the only pic I've got, because the truck is in pieces now.

Thank you, but it is a picture of the heater inside that cab I was seeking.
I'm interested in seeing what it does to footwell space compared to the sleek little duct the "fresh air" version has. |
