Re: blazer 2 wd convert

A bit of work casue your going to need a part truck that2 2wd to do it. I was going to make my 2wd 86 pickup a 4wd and found it to be a bit more work then thought.

Plus iv seen some people say with pics that the 2wd frame and 4 wd frame are different in the front.

Id look for a 2wd blazer personally unless the body is that nice then find a blazer that get a bad body a swap it out.

just a thought

Re: blazer 2 wd convert

What kinda conversion you want - just RWD, or you want the IFS too? To me the IFS is a major main in the ass, I'd be much happier with a solid I-beam front axle. As a matter of fact I'm planning on doing that conversion some time this summer, if I can find a suitable axle - I may actually need to fabricate my own one cause I wanna run coil springs and most I-beams are made for leafs.

Re: blazer 2 wd convert

Well then I'd imagine you need the 2wd engine crossmember, seeing how everything IFS attaches to it. You should be able to use the 4wd crossmember at the front of the frame, I know it's different from the 2wd one and needs to be replaced when doing 2wd-4wd conversion, but it has to do with the front mounts for the leaf springs - you lose the leafs and the hangers, but x-member can stay.

Re: blazer 2 wd convert

you need to pull the entire front clip off, and the engine and trans out. you're gonna need to install a 2wd trans anyways, so just pull the motor out too while you're at it. yank the engine crossmember out, as well as the motor mount towers, and bolt the IFS crossmember in place. if you wanna do an awesome job of it, buzz the rivets out of the shackle hanger brackets and fill the hole where the bushing used to be, and buzz the front spring hanger off of the bottom of the body mount.
