Flip kit? + Shackles? How low can I go in the back.

I am in the middle of this project truck (85 C10 short bed) and I'm going to be ordering the suspension this week. I am considering the Belltech 6" axle flip kit and 2" shackles. I guess that equals roughly 8" of lowering. This is far from a daily driver, so comfort and ride quality are nothing to me, haha. How low have people been going with just suspension lowering in the back (no airbags).

Just for the record, the front will be getting a set of 2.5" drop spindles and 2-3" lowering springs.

Western Chassis flip kit + 2" BellTech shackles out back. No c-sections installed yet (have them just not installed) & it's been driven daily now for 2yrs.

Holy crap, no frame reliefs? Sounds intense. So does the frame make much contact with the axle with that setup? I might go for the full 4" shacke kit + flip kit. Hmm. This forum kicks ass BTW. Haha.

Dropped hangers maybe?

2" shackle is the most they offer. I think your bed floor won't live long & bolt-in style c-sections won't work well if you go more than the flip + 2" shackles.

I can't carry much payload @ all & it does bottom out frequently. I just haven't had the opportunity to get the c-sections installed since I've been using it as my sole transportation sorce.

I will actually prob get them installed the week of 6-17 'cause the GF will be out of town & I'll have her car for the week. You definitely want the c-sections .... it sucks on crappy roads w/o them!

Yeah the hangers + shackles + flip is what I was referring too. I definitely plan on installing the notches though, my buddy had an S10 on which he had removed all but one of the rear leaf springs. Yeah, it hit the frame a lot and that sucked.

Re: Flip kit? + Shackles? How low can I go in the back.

2" from shackles + 2" from hangars + 6" from flip with c notch = 10" in the rear

2.5" spindles in the front with 3" coils + 1.5 coils cut off = 7" in the front

seen quite a few ppl taking a leaf out of the rear for a total of 13" in the rear...but thats damn near scraping, I pray for them that they dont have potholes!

FYI, you cannot use drop spindles AND drop LCA's at the same time.

Re: Flip kit? + Shackles? How low can I go in the back.

I been wondering the same thing.
I mean they have 6 inch flip kits,

2 inch hangers
2 inch shackles
mono leaf lowering springs and multi leaf lowering springs in the brother's catalog, I wondered if you could combine all thee lol.

Then do like 3 inch spindles or 2.5's and then 2.5 or 3 inch springs in the front lol.

Re: Flip kit? + Shackles? How low can I go in the back.

Yeah I think I'll go for the 6" flip kit and 2" shackles in the rear. Then 3" spindles and 2" springs in the front. So a 5/8? Haha.

The back of my truck sits unusually high, does this necessarily mean it has the HD springs?

All ideas are welcome guys. I want to be low, haha. Consequences be damned.

If you have more than 4 leafs...say seven, then your answer is yes. My truck is, well was, the same way.

Re: Flip kit? + Shackles? How low can I go in the back.

I have like 4 reg leafs and one aftermarket helper leaf thing thats apparently jacking the back up a little. I'll get rid of it when I do the rear of the truck. Where have you guys been buying your suspension stuff? I've been looking at Summit myself.

Doing my civic duty here...

DO NOT purchase your stuff from Sport Truck Direct!

I hear Performance Suspension has good customer service and pretty much everything you need...at good prices.

Didn't see this answered so I figured I would chime in...
It is POSSIBLE to do it, BUT it will violate scrub and put you and the rest of us at risk if you have a blow out. Essentially if the tire goes flat, the control arms will be lower than the rim when there is no air in the tire so you would have no control over the vehicle in the event of a blowout since it would be skidding on the control arms. It is a safety issue.

Re: Flip kit? + Shackles? How low can I go in the back.

Guys have any of you tried summit racing?

They sell their own brand, belltech and djm.

I checked last night and 3 inch drop coils are like $75

Flip kit is less then a hundred,

spindles are like $220 a set for a 2.5 drop, little more for 3 inch drop.

They carry shackles and hangers, I think their shackle and hanger kit was $150 but you can get them seperate for cheapier.
