Help me pick header/muffler combo...

I decided to go ahead, bite the bullet and get my exhaust done.
Probably going to get the coated header, might as well. Just not sure which brand/model.
As for mufflers, I do like the sound of flowmasters, but I don't want to hear it everytime I drive my truck. Been looking online at the dynomax super turbo's. From what I have read/heard they have a less aggressive sound, which is what I want, something "tame" but with a slight growl, if a 305 can growl, lol
Need some opinions, and maybe brand/model #'s so I can check out. I know tons of you guys have some nice setups, let me know what you have and how you like it?
PS, gotta go with some shortie headers.
thx
John

I've got a set of 2.5" Dynomax Super Turbo's on mine with long tube Hooker Comps coated and you hear the thump of my cam, It's not that loud but a deeper mellow tone. I'm satisfied with my set-up.

Try some Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow. Not to loud, not too quiet, and almost no interior resonance. This is with ceramic coated long tubes, 2.5 pipe, and a H crossover. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Help me pick header/muffler combo...

For your headers Summit has a set of square port Flowtech Ceramic coated for 245.xx match that with your dynamax super turbos and you should have a good looking and sounding beast

Never mind...my bad...I didn't read far enough to know that you wanted shorties, and that price was for long tube. Just looked on summit though and they have sbc shorties for the same price p/n BIG-31108FLT that should work.

Re: Help me pick header/muffler combo...

you could do headers with your stock catback, and then put some electric cutouts in your Y instead of spending that $300 on mufflers and catback. that way youd have quiet when you wanted and loud and fast when you wanted.

Re: Help me pick header/muffler combo...

I'm running Flowtech Longtubes with flowtech mufflers, with true duals. All 2 1/2". Fairly loud but you hear every thump of the cam and gets peoples attention in a hurry.

Headers Here Here

The Dynomax Shorties is what most lowered C10 owners with SBC use. the ceramic ones are 86118 and the black coated ones are 85118. The application is a Chevelle and they are 3/4 length.

Re: Help me pick header/muffler combo...

i went with hedman elite ceramic coated shorties.there awesome so far.3/8 thick flanges, ball and socket collector's(no gasket).plenty of ground clearence.2.5 inch true dual with flowmaster 40 original's.sounds great.i dynamatted the poop out of the cab. so,sound level inside isn't a issue.but outside it's everyone's else's issue.

Re: Help me pick header/muffler combo...

as soon as I get this thing running again this weekend, I'm taking it to the shop to get the work done. Just went by there yesterday to talk to the guy. I am kind of set on dynomax super turbos, I do like the 40 flowmasters, but really don't care for the noise after a minute or two.
thx for the info all. I guess I will decide when I take it down to get it done.....
