Re: Dual Exhaust Photos

Looks to me like there are no header mods required. I hope that's how it is!

I know the ball and socket deals you have to cut the headers and the lead pipe and put thoose on. Looks like you only have to do the pipes on that setup and not the headers.

The ball and flange of the header buddy fits into (against) the header outlet and attaches to the header flange. No welding at the header side. I may end up having the ball adaptor welded though.

Re: Dual Exhaust Photos

Here's the project at hand:
79 Silverado 10

Currently: 305 2bbl, bone stock; TH350; 3:73; 266,000 miles; single exhaust with a terrible stock cat.

Planned: 406 w/ blueprinted Quadrajet; good ol' Crane Cam; Speed Pro Pistons; 5.7 Rods; tweaked cast iron heads; headers; dual cats; undecided on pipes & mufflers.

If that truck is ever to see dirt again copy and modify my setup - headers for a full-size car, S-bent header extensions from Headman Hedders, insert high-flow cats, about 2ft of straight extension pipes, two mufflers of yer choice, then either turn downs or tailpipes out the back. Do everything behind the headers in 2.5 piping, you don't really need 3" unless you have a high-revv big-block to breather fire through it.

Re: Dual Exhaust Photos

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "see dirt again" but she's a daily driver. Do you mean lowering it? Yours is one of the setups that I've been considering.

What will the car headers do for me? Do you mean headers for a 78ish Monte Carlo? If not, then what year & model car?

Will headers made for the 73-87 trucks clear the cross member?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Dual Exhaust Photos

Dave, I meant that lotsa folks complain that truck headers actually hang a little too low, which may be fine if it's a strictly street truck but may become an issue when you go off-roading. The car headers I'm aware are supposed to cure the problem are for the '80s Monte Carlo, they are still full length headers but they don't hang as low as the truck ones.

Re: Dual Exhaust Photos

OK, now I gotcha ... no, it's not much of an off-road vehicle being only 2WD, so I shouldn't have clearance problems. It's main function is hauling stuff to renovate my 150+ year old house. It'll be nice to be able to go up hill with a full load at more than 30 mph one day soon. Thanks again!

Re: Dual Exhaust Photos

you guys with 4x4s are going about it all wrong...to get past the transfer case you have to go up and over it... i put duals on mine 2 years ago and haven't even had so much as a collector gasket go out....i've unhooked the exhaust from the headers twice and reused the same old plain gaskets that come with the headers.....that and if you go up and over the transfer case...you can fit 3" in on it
