Angry transfer case problems

I have a NP203 tranfer case with th350 auto/trans. that is very difficult to shift into 4hi. It will shift into 4low no problem, checked the fluid and its full. any ideas?

I'm so glad you asked this question! I'm kinda having the same problem. Except I can get into 4hi just fine. It's 4lo I'm having troubles with. Tried to go out and play in the mud today for the first time this winter and couldn't get it into 4lo. But I still had fun in 4hi

I'll be watching this thread to find out what kind of replies you get.

On smokie55's panel conversion we had trouble as well on his NP208/700r4 conversion since the guy before welded some angle iron under the cab where the shifter on the TC would move into 4H it would block it. I doubt this is the case but have someone shift the TC while looking underneath for any kind of bind.

this is likely a NP203 specific problem because the linkage is very cumbersome. If you have ever seen it, its a mess of bars and pivot points, etc...

its also not very easy to get at but I do have the adjustment manual SOMEWHERE so let me know if you need it. My np203 in my 77 K10 was the same way, it was very hard to get into 4 lo-loc.. you had to put all your weight into it..

the first thing I would do if I were you is WD-40 the HELL out of the linkage.. then work it for a while.. this wont be a permanent fix or lubricant but it will help unmask the problem..

of course there is the possibility of it being something internal but I bet not

I also had the same problem with my 203. I had my cab off so taking apart the whole linkage assembly was a snap, shifts really nice now. If you could take it apart and clean it and then grease everything that would probably be better than just squirting it with WD40. But dissasembly might be impossible with the cab on or without dropping the tranny and t-case.

thanks, What if I used brake cleaner to clean out the linkage the best I could , then grease it good. Do you think I would damage any parts with the brake cleaner?
