new radiator question

got my new radiator today. ordered from autozone, model #cu730. listed as a 4 core heavy duty radiator.

here are the pics.








and the question i had... its listed as a 4row radiator, but here are only 2 oversized rows inside of it... it looks like it will do the job, but i'm just wondering here.




and yes, it is plastic and alum, but i'm fine with that

oh, and i need the rubber and brackets for it now

guess a dealership should have those right?

The radiator looks identical to the one I installed on my truck. Go www.jcwhitney.com and order the zinc anode. The anode will help reduce corrosion inside the radiator.

looks like it will do the job i just installed the old style 4 core and yes it has 4 little hole all the way across but i would be happier with yours the larger hole allow mor eflow i think and less chance of clogging.

and g, you have a part number for the bracket and rubber mounts? there are like 2 different brackets and a load of mounts and i'm not positive which ones i need.

I was hoping to score an aluminum one equivalent to a copper 4 row for more cooling. I asked for one for a 454 1 ton truck. The one they pulled out ended up being old school copper but with as much trouble as I had finding one I just took it since the price was good and the copper brass construction is proven. I was a little scared of the plastic tanks at first but if all these newer cars are running around with them, then they must be good.

Plastic tanks hold up fine, I've more than once ran my over 4200lbs of a landyacht with its stock near 20-y-o radiator for well over 12 hours non-stop on some fairly nasty roads and nothing breaks, nothing leaks, and it ain't like the motor don't get hot, over 210F all the time. Just pay attention to the way the plastic tanks are clamped to the metal core, that's where most of them radiators fail and develop leaks.

32-0988 for the bracket. I'm not so sure on the rubber. The catalogue has changed. I'll see if older copies ID the parts better.

i went up to the dealership but they didnt have one. although you would not believe what they DID have.

an oem dash for the truck! and they gave me a $50 discount that brought it down to $325 just gotta wait till i ship off this POS one from chevyduty and go up and pick up the new one

The 4 core I bought from Oreilly last year had the true 4 cores and was considerably thicker than the stock 2 core. I had to buy the rubber mounts (top & bottom) plus a new top plate and shroud.

I have the same exact radiator in my 383 powered 84 C10 and couldn't be happier! It holds up great, cools very well (even in Oklahoma heat...) and looks nice, even with my two black transmission coolers attached to it... I also had no reservations about the plastic tanks, but am very careful with the plastic filler neck... Be careful with those hose clamps!

The plastic radiators are throw away peices, once they leak most cant be fixed so they get tossed and have to buy a new one. I have the cheap replacement plastic radiator in the 73 and it works great though.

Eric, looked at an older LMC catalog and they recommend these new pads and brackets when going from a 2/3 row rad to a 4 row
