ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

anyone have any opinions on which kit is better or worse? ECE's kit is $859 and CPPS it $699 so not a whole bunch of difference there Ive heard alot of good things about ECE so maybe the $159 is worth it for better quality? what do u guys think? I should add that im looking at the kits with the drop spindles included as well, and I believe the cpp kit had the upgraded 73-87 style hardware

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

I bought my kit with dropped spindles from GMCPaul for $470 and it was about 7 hours to install. I bought a disc brake prop valve at the junkyard for $5 and a few line fittings for the new master cylinder I bought. I'm happy with it!

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

You will get much MUCH better service with the ECE kit, Stan at ECE is the best I have ever dealt with, They will bend over bakwards to get you what you need even if it means getting custom parts made. He got a set of brackets made for me to go with my 9", and did not even charge more than the normal F&R disc brake kit cost. I have also dealt with CPP, and I like some of their parts, there service is like a whore house get you in and out. I have had nothing but bad service, sending me wrong parts that I had Powder Coated and sent back to them for assembly. Like I said quality of parts is fine, but service sucks. ECE has it all, and their quality is just as good or better, but I would pay for the service anytime. Like I said give ol Stan a call, and tell him you are part of the board, and he will probably hook you up. They will match the price of the CPP kit, but don't tell him I told you so. I have done time and time again.

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

pissonnos- the cpp kit requires you to change your tie rods and ball joints. The ECE kit is complete and adds the Master cylinder, bracket, steel lines from the T fitting up to the master cylinder and includes the dust shields but cost $390 more than GMCPauls. I paid $15 for my master cylinder at Autozone, I bought my prop valve including the attached 2 small lines and bracket at the junk yard for $5. I picked my kit up from Paul at the Truck nationals in Carlisle and he gave me a deal on the dust shields for about $30. So add $50 plus about $10 in brake line adapter fittings to tie the prop valve into my existing lines and that comes to $520. I used kit #133163. I had to grind a little on the spindles (about 1/8") for the top a-arm radius and for my wheel weights which are mounted on the backside of my rims. This took no effort at all because the metal is pretty soft. Just buzz them with a grinder. Here is the kit:http://www.gmcpauls.com/Brakes&Steering.htm One other thing was I had to drill 3 holes in each spindle to mount the dust shield and use self tapping screws to mount them. Alot of people don't run dust shields at all.

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

None taken,

I would still call Stan at ECE and see what he can do for matching prices. If you show him the quote of GMCPauls he might hook you up. It never hurts to ask. Good luck.

I asked for one for a 71' only because the truck I pulled the prop valve off of was a 71'. 70GMCer showed me how to bench bleed it because I had never done it before (5 minute job with instructions and bleeder kit included). We didn't have to do anything at all with the pushrod length. The hardest thing was riding all over town to find the reducer fittings with the inverted flares to connect the prop valve to my existing brake lines. I used one on the bottom and two on the rear. I could have just ordered new lines to the T block to make it cleaner but I was in a hurry. Here is a pic of the rear adapters I used. I also found this article today online!

OK you all have given your opinion on ECE , CPP and GMC Paul's. What about Brother's? Good , bad or average. I have a 67 SWB that I want to convert.

with jasonb72.... any time you want to order parts from ECE always call Stan and see what he can do. They offer their 4/6 for $759, and priced it to me w/ shipping for only $775 total!! That's shipping it from California to Missouri....

I have ECE and couldn't be happier. So, to anyone who commented positively for ECE, I second the motion.

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

I went with ECE on my truck. They had great service and all of the guys there including Stan are very knowledgeable. The parts are great quality, made in USA and I had no problems bolting anything up. ECE all the way.

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

I haven't installed it yet but I bought the whole disc brake/suspension kit from ECE and it is all top notch stuff. Raybestos brake parts, high quality parts and outstanding customer service.

My two cents worth recommends the ECE stuff.

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

ECE is by far the greatest way to go hands down. I may be biased for that they are the only company that i have dealt with. But quality, service, and advice is 2nd to none. Every suspension part and sheetmetal part for my truck is from them. I would not go any other way, also because the fact that i am only an hour away from them too.

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

I just got off the phone with Stan from ECE...

I called to check on a credit I had....I had sent something back, shoot I cant even remember what it is now because it was back in May/June...but I had a old receipt and I had written $39. credit from Stan.....so I said HECK Let's give him a try and see what he says....

So I call Stan up, tell him my name and my situation....he looks through computer and sees what Ive bought but not what Ive returned....he says well you know I can't find it in the computer....so I start thinking well shoot that sucks, there goes $39....but he quickly says, HEY ILL JUST TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT!! You've got a $39 credit....

So then I guess my compulsiveness kicks in and I start to order dropped spindles.....then as we discus what I need again my complusiveness kicks in more and I end up buying the entire kit! Power Disk Brake Conversion, Springs, Shocks, Panhard bar, Shock relocation kit....everything....i cant wait to get it.....

Stan admitted that I could of probably pieced it together through other vendors or local auto parts store but explained that sometimes its just better to buy a entire kit and not have to wonder, well shoot do I buy this year or that year ball joints, do I buy this year or that year brake lines...

So I said, the heck with it.....Everyone raves about how good ECE parts are, I might as well buy something I KNOW Ill be happy with...

I look forward to getting my stuff next week and slappin her together! She's getting closer and closer to being road worthy!

As long as the quality of the parts even come close to the quality of customer service, I would recommend ECE and Stan to anyone!

Re: ECE vs CPP disk brake swap kits

I run a bodyshop here. We had a a guy come in with a 69 stepside. He bought CPP full kit for 1800 I believe. The parts I handled and installed were quality products. I called on a saturday and to my suprise I was able to talk with a tech.

good parts and good customer service. I don't have any expericene with ECE.
