torque converter

I just got my truck running, it has a 350 in it. Initially I thought that while in park, my mechanical fan (flex-a-lite - no fan clutch) was making a whirling sound. But I kind of heard the sound coming from beneath the cab. So I am now thinking that its the torque converter because when I throw it in neutral the sound goes away. Is this normal? Do I need more tranny fluid or something? Tranny is a powerglide...

A nascar race isn't the best place either for hand signals
