tilt question.

I have a '75 K10 that originally had a th400 and factory tilt column. Now it has a SM465 4spd and I want to change the column to match. My question is: Can I turn the MANUAL trans column into a tilt from the AUTO trans column? Are the shafts and outer collars interchangeable? Thanks

Arrow Re: tilt question.

I wanted to do the same thing to mine when i moved my auto shifter to the floor and i went to the junk yard's looking for the parts required to perform the mod and what i found was that it can probably be accomplished but with an extreme amount of work more than i cared to do.

So i just ended up cutting off the auto shift arm mount stub on the column collar and then i just filled in the hole with some 2 part epoxy and then i painted it.

Most people don't even look at that but the real truck/car guys that do allways ask me where i got that steering column.

Re: tilt question.

If the manual is non-tilt you can't change it, you need the collar for the tilt portion. IF you could find a manual tilt you could change the auto, but if you could find it swapping would be easier.

Thumbs up Re: tilt question.

When i was considering this i was looking at the mid & late 80's Camaros most had auto's and since the shifter was on the floor the collar is just what your looking for.
