Clutch/trans question

Ok I finally was able to work on my truck and I got the new motor fired. It has a minor exhaust leak and I thought cool if that's all that wrong I'm stoked. Of course not. The trans will not go into gear with the truck running and the clutch in. It worked fine with the old motor. I had my daughter push the pedal and you can see the throw out bearing move and the pressure plate move away from the disc. Is that how it's suppose to work? Thanks for the help.

Re: Clutch/trans question

It's probably the old ragged shift linkages.I disrupted mine while installing my headers but they worked themselves out.Just go under the hood and fool with them a little bit.

Also it goes into gear no problem when the engine is off.

Re: Clutch/trans question

Maybe the clutch linkage needs adjusting?

Re: Clutch/trans question

This will happen when the disc is put in backwards. It will also happen when the input shaft has a lot of wear from the clutch spline and hangs in one spot.

Re: Clutch/trans question

Is there anyway to check the disc without pulling it apart?

Re: Clutch/trans question

Also if the disc was in wrong would it move like it does? Could I loosen the pressure plate a little and see what it does?

Re: Clutch/trans question

Well I loosened the pressure plate and tapped the motor a couple times and it worked. Now I just need to deal with the exhaust.
